8x57 boolits?

i have a 98 mauser(sporteried) in 8x57. the mauser is a 1944 production and it was sporterized with a bishop stock and a redfield peep sight, what year, i do not know. the bishop stock is cracked behind the trigger and the barrel channel is bent to the right. instead of fixing it, the mauser will be placed in a richards micro fit stock, it will be a wolverine left hand shooter/right hand action and grade a fancy in american black walnut. since the original trigger is garbage, i've put on a dayton traister trigger. i also slugged the barrel and it comes out .3235".

i'm no benchrest shooter, but i like to shoot. i hunt, but i'll take the mauser out once in awhile. 4895 and 2400 are my friends, including dacron. what i'd like "to have"

5. fn and rn
6. 10 lead and 1ish tin (yes, i do like my boolits soft)

The Lee , 8mm , 175 gr. RN bullet is an inexpensive mould and not a bad place to start looking for the things you describe.

The Lee mould (above) is an excellent choice if you want to get into 8 x 57mm. Mine probably could be beagled a bit as the nose is a tad small for the .324" diameter I need for my Shaw bbl. There was also a 6 cavity 200gr. bore rider Lee group-buy mould on the Boolits site years ago that is a better shooter out of my gun, but that mould may be hard to find.

That Lee 175 grain bullet has shot well for me for many years. It has won a couple Milsurp Matches for me at NCBS.

My other Lee 8mm cast bullet is a monster--236 grain Group Buy 2-banger. It shoots well, but exacts a toll through recoil it prompted much past 1600 FPS. Memorable. When I get around to casting some Kalifornistan Venison Makers out of the Rotometal NonToxAloy, this one will be the 8mm selection.

I have 2 8x57mm Mausers.
One still has the issued barrel the other a bartiline spelling).
I shoot the Lee 175 exclusively in both.
Am able to hold 3/4 inch groups on steel at 100 yards
and 1 1/4 inch at 200 yards.
Have tried other bullets but always come back to the Lee.

The two 8X57 rifles are gone, but when I had them Lee was the bullet.

For whatever it's worth I use the Lee in a 32 Rem both PB and GC to good results with 32 WS data also . I intended to use it on hogs once but they didn't cooperate .

I have no experience with the 8mm. Just wanted to inform you that MP has a 8mm design that is slightly heavier, and with a meplat- 20% discount these days

if only they had some sort of measurement.
any sort.
length to drive band, nose taper, nose diameter... any flippin measurement anywhere would be most helpful in determining if they would even chamber in my rifle.

I'd be better off buying the mold then looking for a gun to shoot the bullets in.
I don't buy Miha's molds because I got no clue what I'm looking at or what it will fit.

I have shot hundreds of the Lee 175. My current favourite is the NOE 252 grain heavy weight. I have the solid nose and hollow point version in one block. Guaranteed to make mess of a wet sandbag at 200 yards.

Was that, one of the Midsouth Customs?
They are designed with long fat noses for old war horses with worn/eroded throats...if that's what the OP has?
215gr Karabiner
225gr Maximum
I have both of these molds, and the ones I have, drop larger/heavier than advertised.

It may be one of those, I don't recall exactly. It might have come from Buckshot, he often bought 2-4 of the custom Group Buy moulds and resold them to the Burrito Banditos. It stabilizes well in the 4 turns/meter twist that most 8 x 57 barrels come equipped with.

My Turk likes the lee, my yugo not so much, they both shoot the heavy noe great. The lee I plain based and shoot in the milsurp matches with 8.8 grains of blue dot

the Mihec is one of Bob Kell's designs.
it was based on as many rifles as he could measure or have measured, most [if any, if I read him right] of them were not newer saami spec. type rifles.
they will work in the milsurp type rifles very well though.

sorry Bob, I think you know what I meant.
