That right there should tell you something. Pop never let us use the hot rods which back then were the 270 and 25-06. For us it was the 30-30, favorite of my eldest brother, the 30-06 for the middle boy, and the 45-70 for me. Pop used whichever he grabbed walking out the door.
Today, I have gotten way over that 45-70. The more I use my 50-70, the less use I have for the small ore brother. If I need something flatter shooting, I grab the 405 WCF. Both hit hard and normally need only one shot.
