I have an old Lee , Aladdin's Spire point .30 cal. mould.
It is a single cavity group buy from 20 years ago.
It shot well as a g/c mould.
I shot some through my Ruger # 1 , 308 Win. Stainless Sporter rifle. 18.5 grs. IMR 4198, , sized .310 with the Lee Push Thru sizers , Lars 2500 lube , with Win. Large Rifle Primers.
Results speak for themselves ( 80 yards , 5 shots fired off the bench , rifle resting in sand bags )
I have all kinds of .30 cal. gas check moulds, ( most likely way more than any one person needs ) today I decided to plain base this single cavity mould.
I was well pleased with the work done on the removal of the g/c shank.
There is an " Old Wive's Tale " that spire pt. cast bullets won't shoot..........I have not found that to be true !
Here is the bullet after me removing the g/c shank this morning. The base of the bullet is plenty thick enough to offer a great gas seal, the base now is .313", I size most of my plain base .30 cal. bullets to .311", as I have these today.
I seriously doubt that these cast bullets will loose much speed as they travel down range.
They are pretty aerodynamic.
Lubed with Ben's Red and sized to .311"
I don't crimp , so.........I just filled both rings with Ben's Red.
I'll experiment , I may lube some with only the bottom ring filled , shoot them in a Side X Side test with the bullets that have both rings filled and see if there is any difference in accuracy.
These have been sized .311" , lubed with Ben's Red and then rolled in BLL.
They are on the drying rack , I'll load some tomorrow.
