An AR 15 upgrade

I'm getting a second one because the first is proven and solid on demand with pretty easy to assemble ammo.
fairly straight and a good bullet is pretty much all it needs.
I think it is capable of more and I know the old leupold vari X-2 needs a trip back for a good clean/tune up, but it's hard to break up a good package.

the other stag we have [standard 20" barrel] wears a kind of sketchy quick release low power type scope affair [I picked up stupid cheap and gave a chance]
it will keep cast bullets on top of 22.5grs of 4895 in the 1-1/2" area pretty much until the shooter can't do it, and it has no problem easily hitting ground squirrels out to 150 or so yards with cheap Hornady 50 gr V-max's or the like.
I'd like to change it up a bit but have been threatened with bodily harm if I mess with my rifle by the claimant.

That oughta be a dandy upper, fiver. The stag I had did just like you mention, I was only using Jax in it, at that time. The logo is classic & appealing on their lowers too.

Poly lowers & pencil barrels...I'm out, 1000%.

The rock river trigger had compatibility issues between the hammer & bolt on a couple older uppers for a friend of mine. One was a nine the other a 6 or 6.5 something. Pretty sure he got it working though.

I've had 3 modern bolt & bbl not headspace correct on ar's. Still haven't fixed the one. It's a toss up. Even with that, we are in a golden age of compatibility & high average quality.

Spending 200 on a lower to go with a random upper probably won't gain much. Getting a high quality matched set can improve accuracy, I've seen it, same as removing the wobbles, facing the upper, ect. If trying to compete on the national level every advantage helps. If making a range toy, varmint rig, ect it's not needed, but can still help. Doesn't matter if buying it done or trying it done, folks are lookin for improvement.

The deal Fiver gave a link to seems like an awesome deal. What i would pay for a barrel, forearm, gasblock i would be spending more for the parts than the price of the upper from Stag.
