Ran into an amazing thing. There is a pretty big reloading supplies seller who usually comes to
the KC area shows. Lots of powders, primers, bullets, brass, odd lots of stuff, too. I got a bunch
of good .300 BO brass, new, primed from him a while back. Powder prices are so-so, not really
great, but if you can't find it.....
In any case there was a pallet of .223 brass there yesterday. About a 3 ft cube of the stuff.
It was kinda dirty, but LC 13 headstamp, all the same, no crimps on primer pockets. I asked if
he had a machine to process this stuff........drumroll.....and he said, "No, that is new brass, right
out of Lake City. A commercial reloader lost a military contract and I got 75 pallets of it."
120K per pallet. Never crimped. Ready to load.
He was selling for 8 cents a case. I bought a "good supply". Also #41 primers for 3 cents, which
is pretty fair for ordinary primers, way better than I have ever seen before for #41s, which are
perfect for making M193 equiv loads.....almost called them "reloads", but not exactly in this case.
Also got a pound of WST, will use in .38 Spl on the WC coated bullet project.
I think 8 cents for same lot LC .223/5.56 brass is a heck of a deal. It is dirty, sorta odd tarnish, from production,
they tumble after loading, but I will be tumbling before I load it.
Amazing to see.
He also had loaded .300BO which he claimed was 220 SMKs, but it didn't look like it to me,
for 50 cents each. Probably a good deal for non-reloaders, but I can drive to Sierra and
get seconds and load them for a good bit less, plus not certain there were "as advertised" so
passed. Prob should have bought a few dozen and disassembled and tested a few.
