Base flashing

If you have it too tight, you'll get galling and wear. I like 3-5 thousandths clearance cold under the stop screw head.

Worked quite well. Once the plate wore in where it goes under the new screw it was a piece of cake. The plate can swing under its own weight.
I ran over 500 this AM and other than a few rounded bases it went very well.

Good work. ..I also found that making sure I tap the sprue plate in a slightly downward angle when cutting the sprue helps prevent that situation. ...

I used a gloved hand to cut the sprue. I got beaten up on for beating up on my moulds.:eek:
Looking at Accurate and NOE moulds with a screw like this it makes me wonder why MP doesn't use on too? None of my other MP moulds has this issue but none of them have seen this much use either.

don't forget to put a little lube on the plate right there where the new screw is.
Oh, that got lots of lube, and often. After 30-50 pours the plate had worn a bit and it slide easily into place.

I haven't beat a mould in a while. I do find that a whack on the handle pivot helps get bullets to drop at times.

fer shame fer shame . . . :confused::eek::oops:

Ya I know...for some reason I have to treat some things mean like that to see if they will hold up...when they do I then cherish them..literally being half Swedish and half Portugese. .I can't figure out if I am too stubborn to change my ways or too dumb to know better...

Looking at MP, Accurate, Lee, LBT, ACE, and a host of others makes me wonder why NOE doesn't use tapered that alignment pins. I know hardened bearing rollers are cheap to buy and press in (like roll pins), but there are some elements of a mould where production corners simply should NOT be cut.

The LBT moulds that I've owned all had roll pins for alignment. Too, they had a "sprue plate hold down finger". I haven't had any cut by them for about 15 years or so.
