I'm no expert, either, but my Dad always did it 180 around from that.
Worked fine for him.

You guys obviously don't get it. What's actually going on is the launching an air boat.

Can you say, "Unclear on the concept?" I try not to derive humor from the misfortunes of others, but weekends at either Shelter Island or Dana Landing during yellowtail season can be......interesting. So too can Opening Weekend of trout season on Lake Crowley.

Tell ya what--I wish I would have brought the boat along for this trip to Florida. I watched a guy casting what looked like floating Rapalas a good distance with a 9' surf spinner. He had waded out about 50 yards, and was almost hip-deep. He picked off some bonefish that blew up the Raps as they passed over weed patties. Right in front of the hotel.

Al little doubt you could rent a boat while there. Any place with that much water must surely have boat, tackle etc rentals.

The boat and tackle renters like keeping banker's hours, just like they do in California. There was a time 30-50 years ago when boat renters actually tried to service the market--you know, open at 5 A.M., stay open until sundown, and comport with fish activity times. I bought the boat I have to get around the 8 AM-4:30 hours of boat rentals at most lakes. Guide services? Booked up, 1 year or more in advance. I don't know what "business" that boat rental joints are actually in--but judging by the equipment quality and hours of operation my guess would be that they are washing cash for some more lucrative but less legitimate venture(s).

There IS good news, though--this new leg (the permanent unit) is MUCH more usable for finer work--like running a clutch in the daughter's Subaru, or clambering up into the boat as it sits on its trailer in the driveway. I have a half-baked plan to run to the Sierras for some trout trolling and fly-rodding later this month or into October.

Watching a few dolphin scoot past the hotel in the waters outside the hotel. I have yet to see a "swell" anywhere in Gulf waters--TX, LA, MS, AL, or FL. Wind waves ar Padre Island and now here, 2-footers at Padre and 1' to 1-1/2' here. Lovely.

Since Winelover has never pulled a trailer forward much less backed one up the pontoon living at the marina is an expensive but wise decision.

Not entirely true.................did have to use a trailer to get the trailer hitch on the UTV re-welded, last Fall. Didn't back it up though.

Boat stored on the water is very advantageous. Can be ready go on the spur of the moment. Even the guides, keep their boats at the marina. Every year, it seems, the lake level rises and floods the parking lot, as well as the road to the boat launch. Been that way all Spring and Summer......................the Army Corp of Engineers, maintains the lake level. Today, was the first day the road to the boat launch was open, from the parking lot. Otherwise, one must have to back up about 1/4 mile, to get to the ramp from the exit. That's where we take Bella to play fetch/swim, after we're done fishing.

Yep but I did have to explain to you how make a left turn (forward, not reverse) out of the parking lot with that little trailer.

Another lake? With over 550 miles of shore line and 22,000 acres this lake will keep him busy for awhile. Gonna have to cause it's a better option than . . . . . . . . . . Backing up a trailer.

Only two lakes in the Twin Lakes area, Norfork Lake and Bull Shoals Lake. :headscratch: Both are nearly identical, in terms of fish species. Both are controlled by Army Corp of Engineers for local flood control. Both have limited land available for lakefront property, due to fluctuating lake levels...............and is the main reason for the many floating marinas. Both are very large lakes, with miles of shore line, that extend up into Missouri. Both lakes host professional fishing tournaments. There undoubtedly, is a reason for calling them twin lakes.

The other fishery is trout. Rainbow, brown and cutthroat. This area is nationally noted for it's trout fishing. Requires different kinds of boats...................flat bottomed river boats to navigate the rivers. Level of the rivers is controlled by the Corps, depending on how much water (generation) they let out of each of the twin lakes, on any given day. Fisherman that wade, must pay strict attention to water level fluctuation and speed................or risk getting swept off their feet and or stranded. The Corp maintains a website for this information. There are also sirens that go off, to warn fishermen, generation is about to happen.

Trailering a boat is a PITA. I barely find the time, to average, one day of fishing a week. Would be significantly less, if I had to trailer. Then there would be the issue of boat and trailer storage/housing. Have two full garages, now. Three and a half and a new two car garage....................would need an additional pole barn. Ain't going to happen...........I don't want a large unsightly oven for storage of my possessions.

Yep, that’s a first for me. Never saw anyone try it quite like that before.
Hope he shut the motor down before the hood went under.
