Catch those primers

I need to buy some straws. Primers all over the floor are a nightmare. My Dillon is bad because the primer catcher doesn’t swing free like it should.

Got to try this one. Such a simple trick, no wonder it does not occur to folks as most will make it more complicated than it is. KISS.

Brad check your little pin that holds the two halves together, and the inner piece will get flaired out causing friction and making it stick.
then put some graphite up in there between the two pieces and some on the slide plate for the primer feed.
if you have that little cup flipping back and forth properly [without a big gap at the back] it should just flop around when you jiggle it with your finger, and it will catch all [well 999 out of a K anyway] of the primers.

I bought one of those 3D printed things on ebay where you turn the ram around and the tool has a channel that guides the primer down a tube into your bucket. I thought it was awesome at first but it doesn't stay still even with his clamp system so you have to RTV it into place - messy!

It also has a tendency to let small primers jam up between the ram and the 3D part gouging it. Maybe I'll just buy a straw!!

Thanks for the idea!

I don’t remember this ever being a problem but I don’t use the Rockchucker as much anymore. My Dillon gets the high volume loading. Rockchucker is used mostly for sizing bullets or seating primers these days.

The straw diameter is enough to hold it in place.

Most primers will go in the tray but the crimped primers come out with such force many will bounce out.

Yah, a little word to the wise.

The Redding T7 ram has a hole in the center that is larger in diameter than the prime arm slot is wide. Straw drops to the bottom of the ram and blocks the hole where the primer drops out for collection.

Got the straw out but I am still working to find a way to make this work. Love the idea, hate primers on the floor,

I attached a neoprene hose to the hole in the T7 ram, the other end of the hose fits into the cap of a plastic apple juice jar. Every primer goes into the jar not the floor.

These are kicking out of the slot for the priming arm. Maybe 1 every couple hundred. It is very dependent on ram speed. Slow makes them go straight down, too fast and they pop out.

Fiver, the tape worked fine. Thanks for the idea.
