It would appear that Colt is making a re-visit to the double-action revolver world. In Rangehot.com, I saw a blurb about their new 2.75" offering with an "enhanced V-spring action". Hogue-like neoprene grips finish it off. FYI.

it comes in stainless.
it looks like my old rossi revolver only with a shorter barrel.

That it does. Colt shows the barrel length as 2". With the utter lack of 'smiths that know their way around a V-spring action, I'm not sure that the "V-spring action" route was a good one to take. It is a good lockwork, and I own several arms that use it--but shooting such revolvers is a lot like being an audiophile that listens to music on an 8-track tape deck, all the time hoping that nothing breaks. That said, if this move heralds re-introductions of Pythons and New Service/Anaconda V.2.0 editions, I welcome it. A 4" Anaconda in 45 Colt would suit me right to the ground.

That could really be something if colt had gunsmiths again.

I have done a little bit of smithing on Colts and they are TRULY a "whole 'nother thing" from a S&W, which I have done
a good bit of smithing on, trained by a friend who REALLY knows what is what on S&W revolvers. IMO, if they
put their old action back in production, it is going to be pretty pricey, that action HAS TO be hand fitted in a few critical
areas, although CNC will certainly reduce the hand work a lot. Of course, look at the prices that Pythons bring,
so maybe they could sell some of them, and the Cobra and DS have pretty darned good reps, too. And they are good
guns.

I have a Cobra which is a favorite snubbie. With the Pachmayr Gripper grips it indexes perfectly for me, like pointing my
index finger. Out to 10-15 yds just point at IPSC target and pull thru and get an A hit, amazes me, as I have ALWAYS used
the sights, in decades of IPSC and IDPA competition, just always use the sights, well - maybe not much at 3 yds, but those are
pretty rare targets.

Love my Cobra. Glad I can work on it, would not trust most smiths to fiddle with it, although it
has never needed any work.

I could kick myself for not buying a 44 and 45 Anaconda back in the day. Of course my income and raising a family back then said otherwise. I do regret letting 2 Pythons go way back. I do have a 6" stainless now. Brand new cost $600. That would be a steal today!

600 is about the number I seen on them.
colt might be trying to get back in the gun making business again.
if they are.
making a decent revolver [you know one with chambers, throats, and barrels that are close to the right dimensions]
at a price point similar to what everybody else makes one [with those measurements] for would be a pretty good idea.

Picked up an Anaconda when they were new, never have regretted it, but BOY is it a
chunk of SS!

Those Big Snakes are yacht anchors, for sure--but so are Redhawks and their spin-offs.

I carried that Anaconda 6" one trip backpacking in griz country.....comforting, but ---

I bought a S&W Mtn Gun soon after we got home for that application.

My Cobra is on the "never sell" list, and I think that if Colt can keep the price in line
with what S&Ws are selling for that they could sell a lot of them, even today.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
I had a Cobra back in the day. Put some terribly hot loads through, as any 20 something ex-Marine type is going to do. Wish I'd hung onto it, but then, I wish I'd hung on to a lot of guns I let go!

I still think that the 3rd-Generation Colt DetSpecs were the single-best snubby 38 Special ever produced in this country. +P-rated, 6 shots instead of 5, OEM stocks that actually worked for most users (or Pachmayr Compacs that were even better). Everything a snub-carrier needed, and nothing that he/she didn't.

+1 on Pachmyr Compac grips. That little cookie bite at the bottom just snugs into
my little finger and the gun indexes exactly the same every time.

I'll stick to my old Cobra . If they were gonna make something called a Cobra they should have made the old gun in better material and not changed anything in the way of looks or action .

I'll reserve my opinion until I see how the action is, but the "Cobra" is apparently an all SS revolver,
which is kinda sad for them to snarl up their historical naming convention of the Det Spl being the steel
frame and the Cobra being the aluminum frame. Marketing folks probably have worked there for
a year, having moved over from Maytag or GE and wouldn't know a handgun from a hair drier
without a bit of training, and zippo sense of history of the marque.

Apparently an "improved" version of the SF-VI action.....which I have no experience with. The old
Police Positive/Det Spl/Cobra action is superb, but tricky to build and smith. Perhaps this new action
will manage to be a good action AND affordable to build and easier to work on.

Time will tell, but Colt has snatched defeat from the jaws of victory many times in the past.

IMG_1120.JPG These are the only two Colts I have ever owned. There have been others that I would have liked to have gotten but never did. I've only had the 357 magnum for a few years and haven't shot it very much. It's a nice revolver and has a very smooth action in a pretty nice trigger for being right out of the box. I believe it was made in the early 90s.

Good to know that the King has a good action. The new Cobra is supposed to be some improved version of that
basic design, and I have no experience with it......Oh, wait, I guess my Anaconda would have that same basic action,
although scaled up. The Biggest Snake has a decent action, never felt like I needed to get it tweaked from the factory. That King looks a whole lot like the Anaconda.

Never saw that .22 Colt before. Do they still make it?

Bill, I'm not sure that they do. I saw a used one the other day in the gun library at Cabelas just like mine for $350
I bought it new almost 20 years ago. It was less than $200 if memory serves.
