Coping with Wisconsin's paper licences and tags (2 1/2x3 plastic bags)

Wisconsin has gone ahead and done something... confusing.

Instead of the green plastic type material printed out at point of sale, which included the deer back tag, the state now uses plain paper with a laser printer.

At least it didn't use ink jets....

But... what to do with these little pieces of paper in my wallet? After years of having a plain paper driver's license in my wallet, having a teeny credit card sized licence that I carefully cliped from the full sheet made me feel unsettled. Thankfully, I shook the rubber chicken, made the coffee drink libation, and whipped out the plastic...

Choose the 2 1/2 x 3" size, 25 count, and you are good to go.

The Wisconsin licence is @ 2 1/8" wide, the longer tags can be folded over to fit lengthwise. The bag will fit in the credit card pockets as well. No bulging wallet here. This does bring up a good question, what about the back tag? Did it go away? Might have...

-Carcass tags will be printed on regular white paper.
-Carcass tags are now validated immediately after the kill by writing on them.
-The carcass tag no longer must be attached immediately after the kill. However, the carcass tag must be attached if the carcass is left unattended. If you leave it, tag it!
-While afield, it is illegal to possess more than one copy of a carcass tag.
• Backtags are no longer required to be worn/displayed, and will not be issued by the department.

We have been using paper license and harvest records in GA for years and I print mine myself after purchasing online. It gets put in the wallet as is and a pdf copy on my phone if it ever manages to get mangled or wet. So far it never has since the whole wallet goes in a waterproof bag if it rains. Knock on wood that I haven't fell crossing a creek or the likes yet. We however can do a reprint if needed. Deer and Turkey are now on an electronic call-in or sign-in requirement this year as well as recording on your "paper" license.

GA does offer a plastic copy for an extra $3 for those that want it. As for tags I guess they trust us GA hunters to record the harvest without individual tags.

Wisconsin went phone or web reporting at least last year, for turkey and deer. I'd expect they are seeing how much money they can squeeze out of hunters...

Last year I was traipsing through a boggy part of the Kettle Moraine and went down in about six inches of water, interspersed with hummocks... One of those great outdoor experiences where the hummocks prevent you from getting up quickly....

Smart phone? Wow, pretty advanced. My flip phone does what I need. If it goes sploosh it isn't a big loss.

Suppose I could czech if Wisconsin has PDF versions on-line for licenses, put in my "patron" number and see if they have a copy... they might.
