Dearth of .41 caliber jacketed bullets for high velocity?

Reality bites. Looking for a .410" jacketed bullet that is rated for greater than 1,400fps (Hornady sez the XTP tops out). Swift has some A Frame that are good for 3,000fps (WOW... just WOW) but that is overkill for deer. Nosler sells their hand rolled bullets in boxes of ... 20...

I do have some 240gr Winchester silvertip .41 Mag (1250fps from 6.5" barrel), but I'd like to kick the tires and light the fires on a T/C Super 16 414 Supermag... If you want to go heavier than 210gr, the only game in town is lead (other than the Win 240gr loaded ammo $$$)... Unfortunately, Sierra discontinued the 220gr FSP, which most likely would have been the BOMB for deer at 1800+.

OTOH, my #263 TP for diddling with a .411 H&I die and a 288gr 412263 just arrived today.

I think I shall have Lūb Monkey unship the .410 H&I, insert this .411 H&I, and jerk the handle a few times.

Them copper covered lead ones. You know, the ones that can go to pieces easily.

Ditch the jacket, lead does all that will ever need doing in a handgun.

I did use them, when I was a young pup. I haven't shot a game animal with jacketed since 2008. Many deer and a couple of bears, all with bullets I cast.

Jacketed. Oh my.

What good is a 1.610 long case if you can't fill it to the brim with Bullseye, stuff in a 240gr copper jacketed bullet, and pull the trigger?

I have had no difficulty running .44 and .357 at top end loads with cast, and have done it at
8 BHN many times. No magic.. but look at Ian's signature.

I fill 45-70 cases to the brim with a variety of powders and shoot cast. I can approach 1700 fps with a plain base easily.

I can't bring myself to use gc's in handguns...can't do it. I've noticed the long range handgunners typically using gc's. Once you get past the 1400-1500fps zone plain based performance isn't as easy but, still doable.

I really don't have any love for jacketed handgun bullets. Always figure if I'm spending the money for jax it will be for a rifle. We run 380acp-454 casull & don't own checks or gc molds for any of them.

People buy bullets? There are companies that make bullets to sell?

I suppose the next thing you'll tell me is that there are companies that bottle and sell water.

Ummmmmmm, I hate to tell you but.........

Yes, Hornady, the gas check company, makes bullets on the side.

I sure hope so. They would let the less informed shoot more. More shooting means more lead in the berm for me. Face it, I'm greedy.

eh they are just full length gas checks that happen to roll over the top a bit.
I always thought the 414 would do very well with a 235-240gr bullet.

you could get you some 40 S&W cases aneal them and push them down to 408 then slide a 180gr core in there use a cut punch and hollow point form them with a red airsoft bb in the nose to look something like a cooled up 240gr XTP bullet.

So it appears that the .40 S&W might not be useless after all...

Swaging a bullet from cartridge brass must make for some really nice, square, strong bases.

it does.
you can go from a flat [2" circle ] 6 pointed star of brass, to a flat point straight line penetrator with the right core and annealing.
or just about anything in between with the right punches.
I used to toss all the 40 brass I found in a pile at the range, now I pick it up and store it in a box for 44 mag future use.
the little model 94 trapper and the Browning 92 both really like shooting the 430 diameter 250gr round flat nose bullets at about 1350-1400 fps.
and I never feel the least bit undergunned when I have one of them in the truck.
