Facebook gun groups

I first got on an internet forum maybe around 99 and it was a forum specifically about the Kawasaki KZ series motorcycles because I got a KZ1100 with the intention of a complete restoration. Well, that never came to fuition and I eventually sold theproject and all the stuff I accumulated to a really good guy I met through that forum.

Bottom line, I don't know how anybody evcer did something likekeep an old vehicle in operation let alone retore an old one before the internet. Just the parts availability alone, never mind the number of die hard motorheads I met who could tell you how to rebuild that four bank of carbs and then synch thenm in their sleep.

I learned how to reload and cast the good old fashioned way from growing up around it and having my Dad as a mentor even after I left home. That said, I can really see how a web forum could be extremely attractive to a guy who didn't have that set of circumstances and wanted to learn how.

The first gun and shooting related forum I was on was the old handloads.com which died. I think Rex on here is the last person from that one I still have any contact with, sadly. It really was a good forum with helpful guys and a gentlemanly atmosphere. Castboolits used to be really good, and it some ways it probably still is, just too many A holes and when the majority of threads are about cars or some members love life problems instead of shooting and loading, it's time to find another forum.
Your statement about your dads truck a nerve with me. My dad passed 36 years ago and he is still mentoring me. Allowing myself to wander to the past Irealize the most single thing he taught me was to be able to think for myself !

I think it looks pretty sharp. I have never been much for blonde maple, nicely fiqured Welch, oops, walnut is a different story. The dark maple really shows off the figure and contrast.

I'm back to loading for my new .223 and I don't crimp at all; but it's a bolt gun, ALWAYS crimp for the AR's.
I never crimp any of my 223 rounds. No need if you have proper neck tension.

I go on a couple of the 350 legend forums and set people straight. Some of the loads they suggest are outright dangerous. 350 Legend is not a cartridge to go straight at the max load. Some cartridges you can and be safe. But not the 350. Some starting loads in some guns will pop a case head using certain powders.

I have finally got the majority of them to understand the dangers of using LILGun in the 350. After just about every single one of them that use it that can now seat a primer in their case with a finger they are now listening.

I like and watch a couple Face Book Groups. It's good entertainment. Kinda feel like the old man sitting on the porch watching the little kids play and talking the yard. With that big knowing smile on my face. Thinking someday life is going to knock them down a notch. Cept' those kids are adults.

I rarely even go to any other internet sites for casting, loading info, or conversation. Accept for this one, and one other. Unless directed from here.

Seams like a lot of sights are either Commercial or fanboy driven. Like you can't possibly do this right, unless you buy a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious progressive widget.Or use a new certain brand approved part.
I had just started out, when a fellow told me. If I did not buy a Hornady Rotary Case tumbler. That I was in danger of lead poisoning and I would never get an accurate load in anything. Plus he told me only Nosler, and Hornady bullets are accurate.
I am still throwing my stuff in the washing machine with my work uniforms, and am still maintaining low lead levels. Cleaning out sizing lube from the necks with a Q tip and alcohol. Have not bought a tumbler yet.
Now if I was to ever get to the point that I needed to clean and load the brass, from 1 to Zero in less then 24 hrs. Then yes. And I would proudly be showing pics of my pretty brass.
But that.. convenience is a necessity expenditure attitude really gets to me.

I also had a group of fellows scold me. Then lable me as a liar and a fool. A caster only in my mind, for telling them that I was smelting Both pewter and pure lead, alloying it. With A hot plate and a Fondue Pot. Until I could get together "proper equipment.
Labeled as "Stupid, because the melting point of pure is way hotter then a hot plate can get." Also scoffed at me using guinea pig bedding and canning Paraffin as flux.
They me offed me so much, that I immediately stopped replying.
I then made a very polite How Too video. Doing just that, Melting down plumbing pipe. Pouring it in ingot with a Walmart Hot Plate, and a small stove top fondue pot from goodwill.
Then posted it on the thread, in which I was cut down. Plus U tube and Rumble, and a link on every other sight, I was on at the time. Including face book.
Thread was removed from the high and mighty's Sight, I was banned. And any indication that I was ever there was erased.
So I respond in similar fashion and just refuse to admit I know they exist.
BTW the video that got me banned and deleted. https://rumble.com/v1nf61g-making-lead-ingots-with-a-hot-plate..html

Rather not. The rules here are pretty straight forward on calling other sights out.
Fact my post is kind of on the line already
However I will tell you it was not a casting or loading specific sight. But a general firearms sight.

Just checked back there. Out of curiosity. I had literally forgot about it-them, for over a year. Looks like I am no longer banned. Some of my stuff is there. But not that entire thread.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
I have been banned from probably a dozen sites. Hard to believe, eh? Why? Because I would either make a statement or offer someone else a different view on an issue (casting, guns, farming, dogs, law enforcement, military stuff) and I'd get plainly attacked for offering my view. I got banned off a farming site because I told a Mod that regardless of how it worked where she was, in my neck of the woods resetting fence posts had to be done every couple years or your fence would start leaning and eventually fall over. Seriously, I got banned for that!

Far as FB, I belong to a Krag group, Savage 99 Group, Vintage Rimfire group, a Zebco fishing reel group and Mitchell reel group. I also belong to some farm related and tool related groups, like a couple groups for my lathes. 99% of the gun stuff I see is some pretty low level knowledge type stuff- everyone uses jacketed and the latest trendy powders. Cast will "lead your barrel" if you try it, etc. Once in a while I'll chime in and have been treated well so far. FB itself sucks. It does offer a way to touch base with people you know and to share thoughts with them. Outside of that, it's a terrible system run by idiots.

My wife is on a couple of FB sites for her quilting stuff, by and large many of the ladies are very civil, supportive and polite, which like here won't put up with if they are not. Maybe the biggest reason is testosterone, mine is bigger, mine is faster, mine is longer, if I help you out you might out shoot me. Or my buddy,s next door neighbor's third cousin's step son-in-law's newphew was in a bar in while in Army in France was talking to a militant feminist who told him that your gun will blow up while leading your barrel and the bullet will fly sideways before it turns back and shoots your eye out, therefore you are wrong! I wonder if he ate paste in school.

I do not recall where I seen it. The signature line read something to the effect of: "Getting into a pi--ing contest online is akin to walking down the sidewalk and when you come upon on a pile of fresh dog crap, rather than walking around, you step in it."

And... in the world of "if it's not new and tracti-cool, it's obsolete and there is no place for it and should done away with." How many of them own and shoot a 22LR of some sort, an antiquated priming system using, do I dare say, shoots lead bullets .
