Finally Found the Food Plot

Saturday, Private Land Antlerless, started and ended today. Sort of a prequel to Modern Gun. Rather than be restricted to a doe, I went out with a bow. Arrowed a big bodied 6 point, this AM. Muzzle loader starts this Saturday and runs for nine days. I'll wait till Monday and take my LH 54 cal. Renegade, that's been loaded since last Fall. Only hunting firearm that I haven't bloodied.

Well done.

Don't leave any for Rick, he will just miss anyway.

Can we have venison sausage on our next pizza?

Very nice. I'm looking forward to being able to put venison in the freezer.

Have another buck tag and four more for anterless. I switched over to a crossbow, last year. This 66 year old's body is riddled with arthritis. Shoulders are acting up and I already had two knees replaced.

Shot was @ 35 yards out of a tent blind. Cindy, my tracker, was off on a scheduled hike. She doesn't allow me to hunt in tree stands, when she's not around. Deer went about 60 yards and fell six feet from my ATV trail.:D

Mission / Mathew's "Sniper Lite" X-bow, Rage Hypodermic broadhead and Easton "Bloodline" carbon 22" bolt.

Flashlight is in a QD mount and has a red LED bulb. Used only for walking out in the dark, while keeping one hand free.

The sight is a Trijicon Reflex with 1 MOA dot.

that looks similar to the one I seen a gal using on TV.
she said the bolt's flight speed was something like 270 fps, and the compound took the draw up to like 135 lbs

Speed rated, with 400 grain bolt, of 325 fps. Can't recall the draw weight......something like 150 or 175#'s. I bought it because it was rated as one of the quietest X-bows on the market. Probably, due to the nearly round cams. Physical weight is just shy of six pounds. With the carbon bolt, it drops about 2" at 40 yards.......my imposed limit. Longer distances, it's near impossible, to get a clear shot.

those are crazy numbers.
you can see something coming that fast but almost can't react fast enough to move out of the way.
the arrow weight has to provide some serious penetration too, you could take shots previously unheard of.

I've always been pretty good at following an arrow to the target. I could consistently, see arrows launched from my compound, doing 210 FPS. Can't see a hint of these, shot from this X-bow.

Very nice!

It's insane how much power the xbows put out. My father's is a bit dated now, but is a recurve style with 220lb draw wt. Shoots at 350, but it does make some noise. Will pass through at 50. They make even faster today.

They can jump the string, but it's pretty predictable . With my father's they can't make it past the preflight downward clench before the bolt is through them. Gives a predictable 2" lowering of the target, not enough to make a difference . He got a double on public ground turkey. Has to use a little crank to cock it. They don't even run away.

Congrats again!

If my math is right that works out to over 220 mph. I recall that a good baseball pitcher might break 100 mph, and guys can't move fast enough out of the way of a bad pitch. Those deer can't duck the string by much.
