First time shooting my Mod. 1909 Arg. Mau. in ages

The other day I found some 1x fired .270Win. brass at the range, which I reformed into 7.65 x 53mm cases to fit the Argentine Mauser. Once I did that and reloaded it, I searched my ammo safe for more of the same, which I thought I'd use since our range closes for deer season at sunset on Friday. The rifle wears a receiver sight + a front sight from a Swedish Mauser and is a decent shooter, in spite of a so-so barrel. I've long known what works best in it: either Ly. #314299 @ .313" or a CBE "fat" Loverin also at .313". Btw, I also tried the Lee #30-150-TL unsized, (plain base, group buy over there), but no joy. Here's a photo of the CBE ~195gr. Loverin* results from earlier today. (I used 12.5gr. of Unique). AAll shooting was @ 50 yd. with a front rest and rear bag.

P.S. I bought the mould from CBE when Jim Allison (NSW, Oz) still owned the company and there were few custom mould makers who would cut one to that dimension. I'm thinking that CB sans GC may also shoot well.

Mine likes the 314 299 and the 311 284 I have powder coated can be sized at 314 as well. I have shot red dot unique and 2400 and I like 2400 the best. I picked up a 311 284 in hollowpoint and that's my favorite bullet for this rifle over 2400 powder at about 16 50 ft./s. CW

I'd use 2400, but finding it around here is nigh on impossible. However, I'll be looking for it when I re-order BP from Graf & Sons.

i use '06 cases for my 7.65x53. i loaded up some 185gr RN GC (185-1R) with Unique. i haven't shoot them yet. my oldest son has a 185-R1 and i believe IMR4895? my youngest son has a 180gr FN GC with IMR4895? both are m91 (1892 and '93)

i just put on a Redfield aperture sight on my Argie m91 (1900). Mavin, if i could that with a 5 shot group, i'd be really satisfied.

todd, I also use .30-06 and sometimes .270Win. brass. As for grouping, that target wasn't the best for good shooting: a red target dot would have made things a bit easier vis a vis front sight alignment.

Maven, I've hd just as good grouping with Red Dot in my Argie as I have with 2400. I know the pressure curve is different and the pressure spike is up in the "Oh crap!" area, or so I'm told, but I shot a lot of it without issue for several years. Just a thought.

BTW- have you had any issues ordering powder/primers into NYS as far as the new laws apply?

i've had good luck with 16grs. of 2400 under the 314299 also.
theres about 3"s of jump, but it does well enough.
