Waco, Although I hadn't fired my E.R. Shaw re-barreled 8 x 57mm Mauser (originally an unfired milsurp piece) in some time, your questions about the 8 x 57 motivated me to exercise it today. I'm attaching two 50 yd. targets fired with the 175gr. Lee Precision CB; the other with a 203gr. group-buy CB which Buckshot may have run. Both CB's were sized to .3245" and lubed normally. The loads, however were markedly different. To wit, I used 24gr. IMR 4198 + WLR LR primers with the 175gr. CB, but 53gr. WC 860 + WLR mag. primers with the 200gr. CB. (I'll drop that to 50gr. next time though). Both CB's were seated long enough to be engraved by my rifle's lands. As you can see below, both CB designs did well @ 50 yd., but the 175gr. CB "lost it" @ 100 yd. whereas the heavier one grouped much better. Btw, I didn't save those targets as they weren't nearly as good as the closer ones + I had a bit of difficulty getting used to shooting at that distance after an absence of at least a year.
Hope this helps your research for the 8 x 57mm Mauser!
P.S. 15 shots for the 203gr. bore rider, but only 10 for the 175gr. CB
