Found a hens tooth today!

I’ve been trying to find and buy a CVA Cascade in 308 and I finally found one today. It’s at a fairly local gun shop , only 92 miles from me but not that big of a deal. They had it on the shelf so I put some money on it which took it off the shelf with my name on it. Going to pick it up tomorrow.

I could buy a dozen of these in 6.5CM but the 308 has been just about impossible to find.

Huh! I was unaware CVA made anything but muzzle loaders. Nice looking rifle from the pics I found.

CVA has been trying to get into the bolt gun game for a while now.

This will be my third Cascade and 5th CVA centerfire. I will probably get a cascade in 22-250 and maybe, maybe… 243 and 6.5CM.

I was at one of the local shops a few weeks ago and handled a Weatherby ($3,000) and a Kimber ($2,000) and even if they were the same money as the Cascades, I would buy they Cascade first. They didn’t impress me for a $500 dollar rifle and I was rather disappointed in both of them.

The Cascade triggers are superb and the action is tight and smooth. Stocks are very solid and the soft touch has to be handled to be appreciated and described properly. Cerakote finish is well done. Magazines fit flush and the release is tucked in the mag well so it doesn’t get caught on anything and fall out.

On top of all that, length of pull can be reduced by an inch and there are two sling swivels so a bipod and sling can be mounted. Barrels are not stamped Bergara but made in Spain and it suspected they are made in the Bergara factory.

All of mine shoot well but I’m only shooting cast through them and don’t have a good comparison. The 308 will get some jacketed bullets and I’ll be able to compare to other ”like” loads I‘ve shot in my other rifles. I suspect it will do well. I guess I can compare it to a Savage Axis with cast bullets but I haven’t spent much time on load development with 308. But I will…

Fiver - I don’t think you’d be disappointed in them.

Bret - Come down sometime, we’ll shoot them all and then you can be mad at me for needing to buy one!

i think i'd be happy.
i just have like 9 project rifles i need to get going along, and i got a couple of rifles that need scope upgrades.
i wanna get my ICL stock cut, a new pad, and a new scope on it,,, and at least one of the projects finished.
a new rifle is kind of my way of working around getting off my butt and just getting them done.

No doubt about it.

I don't have any bolt rifles on my radar currently, goodness knows I have enough of those on hand. I have two revolver acquisitions I want to make this year, and money set aside. Just gotta find them. The recent Glock 43 was kind of a drop-from-the-sky matter, and I snapped it up. You all gotta help me here, I'm trying to be mature about things gun-related. The local shop is no help at all, always having 6-8 Bergara bolters on his sales rack every visit. That all are 6.5 CM makes things easier, my Ruger 77R in 6.5 x 55 is sufficiently entertaining for that bullet diameter. (Adore the thing).

you know Bergara sells just plain old barrels, and the C-More is easily converted to 243 260 308 358, 300 sav. and maybe, just maybe 1-2 more others.

I’m going to pick it up tomorrow morning. Two hour drive so I’ll leave at 7 to be there when they open. Hope my clearance goes quickly…

I'm not actively looking for anything, but I wouldn't pass up some older classics. I'd still like to build a walking varminter on a Savage 99 or Marlin 336- think 219 Zipper or 25/35 Ackley. I also hem and haw over the not too expensive scary black AR's with their super ugly NY compliant configurations. 223 seems to be like 9mm, always available! But I hate chasing brass. Truthfully I'd just like to find some 22lr and a supply of primers there days. I don't dare shoot much in fear of not being able to replace what I use.

Yessir. I have plenty of components to refill any 9mm I burn up test-driving the Glock 43 in the near future, but I won't go hog-wild with a 500-600 round trip to the desert--a nice way of saying MARIE AND THE GIRLS WON'T BE HELPING. That crew can go through 9mm like water down a drainpipe. I'll bring along the Ruger 22s to entertain (distract) them.

37AFC9E5-067E-463B-8F50-387BB32B6EAF.jpeg 308 is on the left, 350 Legend right. Trigger is as good as the my other two Cascades, Perfect! Only thing I didn’t like was the sticker on the stock, it was paper and came off in lots of pieces over 15 minutes. Should be plastic or non-existent.

I have 20 130 gr “break-in“ loads with CCI large rifle primers to get it on paper and warm it up. CCI primers gave me a lot of trouble in a TC Compass and I want to confirm this gun will fire them ok. I also have some 190gr loads with three different charges of powder and some hunting loads with 150gr Hornaday SST’s. Should be on the range tomorrow.

Very good range report! All of the break in loads with CCI primers fired and then I shot some pretty good groups with 190gr bullets. 50 yard groups of .57, .77 with 11gr of unique, .55 and .75 with 12 gr unique. It was quite windy so I need to try again on a calm day. Going to go up a little heavier on the powder, Won’t be going down. I forgo the SST loads.

The rifle function flawlessly! Heck, I could be talked into selling my Rem 788 in 222 if I could get one of these in 222.

I'm still in shock. To me CVA is/was one of those companies that jumped on the faux muzzle loader band wagon to take advantage of primitive weapons hunts.

in a lot of places they just want the deer shot.
anything with a string or looks remotely like it may or may not load from the muzzle is close enough to work during the 3 month long season.

In re-reading this, it might be a little confusing. What I meant here was, I wouldn’t pay $500 for either one of these rifles as neither of them felt as good as the CVA. Actually, they didn’t feel different than a TC Compass.

The fit and finish might have been perfect but I didn’t pay that much attention. They were both synthetic stocks so it wasn’t like they had a beautiful piece of walnut on them. Smooth function, fit and feel is everything to me and the Cascades was smoother, felt much better and fit me perfect.
