It missed being a Victory model by just few months .
It's just one of about a zillion M10s .
Just a homely 38 Special .
It has a fair bit of holster but it's marks are all crisp .
It left the S&W line in the summer of 47' , hung out in the warehouse until some time early in 49' , making it's way to California by 50' and into a law enforcement armory . In 54' it was sold to a soon to be Kern County Constable and remained in that service until August 1958 .
William W Mitchell hung on to it after leaving the Constable job in 58' . Off/on it roamed around the Panamint mountains , Mojave desert and the Sierras mostly just south of Mt Whitney on down to 5 Fingers .
It came to me from my Grandfather via my Grandmother after his death just before Christmas in 94' . Since 95' it's been on a dozen or so deer hunts in 4 of the 7 Nevada mountain ranges ......I guess round about 5 since it was in the Sierras although Whitney and 5 Fingers are a long way from Nevada .
My boys and my oldest daughter carried it on a couple of hunts as a secondary tool . Soon William's GGgrands will get to shoot it a little , and maybe even get to carry it on a hunt in the same Hunter holster it slipped into back in 1954 when it was brand new .
