Frugal Lyman 358495 needs tender loving

Picked up a 358495 off flea bay, it was so frugal I took a chance with the so-so picture quality and what looks to be wire wheel "cleaning". No light at the seams, the cavities are dark, no light. A bit excessive schuck, the pin holes are a little wallowed. Judicious stoning should take the tiny lip down. Possibly tap the pins out a teeny bit. A little lead splatter below and between the cavities, get them up in temp and that should come right off. As is, the halves rock on that splatter. Sprue plate was at an angle to the top of the mould, I'll use fine emory and a tile to level the plate off, might have to pill the sprue stop pin and emory the top square.

At large, whereabouts unknown.
The burrs around the pin holes disappear quickly if you lap that block half lightly on 600-800 grit wet/dry sandpaper on a glass plate with a spot of oil, but make sure you get the lead spatter off the block faces before lapping. Only lap it long enough for the burrs to disappear completely, then clean off the oil with either brake cleaner, or carb cleaner. You might consider removing the sprue plate and checking out the condition of the block & underside of the sprue plate. I see lots of them that were poorly adjusted, and used without any sort of lubrication to prevent galling in a circular pattern around the sprue pivot screw hole. There is a saved article by Ben about these techniques down towards the bottom of the main page. It's definitely worth reading.
