Going to take a couple weeks away from here

I love almost everybody here but I've got to take a couple weeks off of this social media site. The world has changed a lot in the last few days. I've got to learn a new distance-teaching technology to finish the semester, I've got a new shop to pay for and what's going on in the world has totally changed the business world. Arguing about the qualities of any particular political idealogy doesn't help me do any of that and besides its against the rules here. So I will let everybody else speculate and opine and make up/repeat/dredge up conspiratorial nonsense they choose about any topic they want without any questions or response from me. I plan to keep seeking the truth, see you guys in a few weeks or months.

Please come back soon Keith.

We last pistolero over a silly discussion on bicyclists and now could lose Keith over a damn virus.
This is why politics is not permitted here. I should have shut some of this down quickly and I apologize for my error.
I can’t ask you guys enough to keep things civil. We all have opinions and often hold them dear.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Musta missed whatever it was. Keep the faith Keith! Let us see how the shop looks when you get it done!

Bret you didn't miss it, the entire thread was pulled and is no longer available. A wise decision by Brad. I was going to lock the thread earlier but instead made a post about no politics. I should have pulled it at that time & didn't so my bad I guess.

Wow....we do not want to be without Keith! Did something turn bad?
Keith hope you come back soon ( otherwise I do not have anyone to share my "cat ranch" photos with!) ;)

I don't trust either "side" & sometimes need a break from the dribble they both let loose.... Be well, Keith. Seems election years this gets worse.

I think it's important to remember this is a discussion forum. If we can't discuss then what is the point? We will never all agree & it would be a lame place if we did. If we can make our point without pre-judging or cutting down an opposing view the place stays interesting & useful. We must be able to agree about disagreeing on certain things.

We are headed to a place where the gun is the politic.

Parts of the world are losing their minds over this COVID-19 mess. Toilet paper--hand sanitizer--and paper towels are being treated just like 22 LR ammo was a few years back. Strippers & flippers are emptying shelves--creating shortages--and selling the products at 2x to 5x retail pricing from the trunks of their cars and on street corners. You would think that a roll of toilet paper was some kind of strategic material. Ridiculous.

I only ever made it as far as Cub Scouts, but do try to be prepared for what I deem to be important. Possessing common sense makes sense, too.

Keith, Godspeed my friend.

TP:
Back in the days of Y2K, I was a prepper/hoarder, I had it bad. I recall the Day, in the summer of 2007, when I used the last square of my TP stash from 1999 ...I wept that day...but I was happy to get that closet back, LOL...but dang, now it's full of powder

Was a day or two ago on the news someplace back east was selling TP for $100 per roll.

Now maybe it's just me but I just don't see TP being nearly that important by about $99. If push came to shove and I ran out I might use a wash rag and then wash it afterwards. Why I might even use a paper towel and keep a zip lock bag handy to keep the used ones in. Lot's of options but what isn't an option is $100 a roll TP or even getting upset over it. Buy hey, that's just me.

Lots of effective and very inexpensive ways to clean one's behind without TP. I imagine there are a lot of people who have no experience doing so, ergo panic. I tend to stockpile things I can't live without such as food, water, medicine, basic first aid, household chemicals, baby formula, and things to make sure I can keep those things. We even have a supply of cloth diapers and a cleaning system for them, just in case disposables become unobtainable. I have enough hand towels and rags in the shop to last a decade if paper products disappeared. Doesn't everybody?

The most unexpected thing I bought for my Y2k Stash, was a couple bricks of smokes...I don't smoke, so that is why it was unexpected of me to put them in my stash. But I figure if they are good enough as trading stock in prison (in the movies anyway), then I should have some for bartering. I put 'em in the freezer wrapped in plastic. A year after 2000, during a defrost of the chest freezer, I found 'em and gave them to a friend...later he told me, those were the worst tasting Marlboro's he ever had.

Yep, lot's of ways to accomplish that chore. Out in the woods a hand full leaves is mighty handy and if there is by chance a Magnolia tree around the leaves are fairly large and extra soft. I mean no sense in . . . Roughing it.

I have this thing about having a 30 day supply of tp. Among a few other things. I can lock self up in the house and maybe have to leave once to replenish the drinking water supply, if that goes out.

I keep 6,000 to 11,500 gallons of drinking water on hand, and have a 500' well and 2hp/20 gpm submersible that can be brought on-line at any point with a genset should it ever stop raining for a year. I understand not everyone lives where they can have such things but even apartment-dwellers can (and the smart ones IMO do) store enough essentials for a couple of months in a small space if they put their minds to it. My philosophy is first take care of my own and don't be in the way or a burden, second is have extra to share or trade judiciously with needy if necessary. A nonsmoker stashing a couple cartons of smokes is definitely a good one. I quit smoking eight years ago but have two pounds of halfzware shag stashed because if teotwawki happens I'm gonna roll myself some smokes, pour a big glass of Scotch, and enjoy the show.

Have not used TP in YEARS. I don't go anywhere but my own house. We have a really expensive toilet. Sprays and dries you off. The old lady went out and bought 5 bundles of TP today for her mother. Our toilet has already paid for itself many times over.
