Yes, I always thought of it a useful at 12 inches or less. Contact is perfect.

Contact is perfect if you want to be able to hear again, ever. Lipid suppressor, AKA "gut gun". IIRC Jeff Quinn related a story of a tussel with a genuine "don't ever want to be on the wrong end of" organized crime BG/hitman type while undercover. Jeff lived quite a few more years by applying a rimfire derringer directly to the side of the BG's knee and pulling the trigger.

Unless you have worked on the street, you don’t know what the dark side is really like.

There is a quote attributed to Orwell, and sometimes Kipling:

"People sleep peacefully in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf."

There is some truth to that, no matter who originally said it.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Far better to be suspended / fired than buried. And paper work with a root beer float very tolerable.
It's NY, the Leftist AG gets to prosecute any police involved shooting if she wants, eg- if theres political advantage in it for her. Nothing makes her happier than putting a cop in prison...

Why is it that the people making policy are never the ones on the ground with a 359# mental patient with two fingers up inside your broken nose, while he fights you for your gun? Why is that?

Because people that avoid conflict and controversy are popular to promote. See, “The Peter Principle”.

Or, if you’re a fan of Scott Adams, (and probably closer to reality), “The Dilbert principle” .

Age old question. Why is it the Generals never lead from the front? Why is it the politicians kids aren't sent to the crappy public school your kids are? Why is it that usually the people in power don't have to abide by the same rules we do?

It just is the way it is. Doesn't make it right, but that's how things seem to work.

IMHO, in Civil Service positions, those who are very effective in their jobs are "encouraged" to stay in that position. The less effective who are good talkers and have social skills are promoted upwards. This allows the job to be done and the suits have pleasant company to go to meetings.

Bell ringing, Rick wins. Used to be, up-grade to where they can't do damage. Now, all the way to the top.

I do like being a "Rule Follower" whenever possible. I am in full agreement with that whole preference stream of "Judged by 12 Beats "Carried by 6."

A while back I watched an amusing interview with Billy Joe Shaver where he talks about shooting a crazy guy in a litrle Texas bar who pulled a knife with his .22 Derringer. Seems it didn't physically incapacitate the guy but the surprise of having just beeh shot stopped the fight before it really got started.

Dad had a lot od strange stuff I ended up with including a luttle derringer in 9mm which I have yet to shoot. Doesn't interest me much, but I'm gonna play with it eventually and see what it'll do. Seems to be pretty well made.
