I've carried a Swiss Army "Fisher" knives every day of my life for pretty much exactly 30 years. Wear one out about every decade from resharpening and buy another. Witu one exception, I can't ever remember lubricating one nor cleaning it past a shot of brake cleaner on a rag to get tape residue or blood/hair/barbeque whatever off of it. Pretty sure I dunked the first one in bleach solution after it was used by someone else far more qualified than me to perform an emergency tracheotomy on an accident victim, but that's probably the only time it got washed.

I always thought honing oil had fine abrasive suspended in it.

My honing oil is J&J Baby oil. Pure mineral oil in an easy to dispense bottle and.....I am still using left over bottles from when my grandkids stopped wearing diapers.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Now that I think on it, my most used knife is surely my Leatherman Wave+. If ever there was a folding knife type instrument that needed lube, that has to be the one. Not because the metal galls, but because there is so much crap stuck down in the joints that any fool should know enough to clean and lube it. I'm still working my way up to "Fool, 3rd class". ;)
