Hornady Universal sizing dies .

Has anyone used one ?

The 6.5 Japanese has driven me to a point that actually using the Kieth push through blank and a 6.5 match chamber reamer to make a breach seater/over sized neck sizer die was looking very good .

I stumbled on a very cheap sizer die and seater the Hornady 6.5 Universal neck die and seater . A brief search delivered right next to nothing useful . It seems to be either a semi generic bushing die that has a radiusish generic partial shoulder bump or it is an adjustable "collet" , ie; tighten the decapping rod bushing to make the neck smaller back it off for bigger . My current math says I need a .295 OD for the .270 ID more or less .

Of course the reason for this is just to avoid moving the neck most of .1 every cycle .
Ammohead from TOB (that other board) has me fixed up with with both a Buckshot Lee style push through and a just slightly smaller (.2728 & .272+) H&I for the Herters Lyman 45 lubesizer . That should play nice with the Arisaka as the unsized 270-140 NOE shows promise unsized with a "snapped on" 6.5 Hornady check at .272+ . I have a .278 , .280 ,and .285 from Buckshot and the .258 , .260 , and .265 .......none of which were especially helpful here .

The big question is which way does the neck die swing ?
If needed is it practical to lap it a little bit of should I just put it in with the Forster BR neck die for the 264 and walk on knowing that for $15 I've made worse mistakes .

I actually have one in .35 cal. While gathering gear for loading .35 Whelen, I found one of these dies on discount. When I got hold of it, I was rather sceptical.... No guidance to speak of. I haven’t actually tried it yet, I chose to neck-size with a FL die instead.
But if you’re short of other options, it’s worth a try, I guess.

The 6.5 Japanese dies size ID down to .259 pull it up to .261 . In this rifle it forms out to .274 and needs/is getting a .272 .

The bulk of the brass is Norma although I have enough press to form 308 family down . No sense making work if I can avoid it .

I have several like pictured and they just neck size.
I use the same 30 cal one to neck size 308 cases and 30-30 cases
the 30-30 gives me 309 I.D., and the 308 cases give .306 [but still take 310 bullets]

you could maybe get ahold of one in 270 which should have a 275 ball, since the ones I have used give .002 tension for jacketed bullets.
I don't think they make them anymore [maybe? shrug] but it wouldn't be too hard to polish one down 2-3 thou.

I've wasted $15 in worse ways ..... I couldn't kick , the ad implied it came with a specialty seater also and replacing the 358 Win Lee dies with an older set of Lyman AAs made it worth while .

The bushings offered , if it is the solid bushing die , skip over the needed neck OD by .003 on each side . The per case thing might fill in the gap .......
