I am going to try to make some jacketed 44 magnum bullets out of 40 S&W cases.
There are 2 items i need. 1 is a sizing die body from a 7x57 Mauser. It doesn't need the decaping stem just the die body.
An item #2 is a 170 ish grain 40 caliber mold.

I have a Lee 175 TC mould, old style two-cavity in very good condition. No extra 7x57 dies but plenty of .308s and '06s.

you'll also need a stem to push the bullet up in the die.
BTW i use a 180gr 38cal. bullet, the lee T/L 40 cal bullet is a good one too.

Yes I have several push rods from Lee push through dies, plus the dies themselves.
Would a die body from an 06 or a 308 do the same as a 7x57 Mauser. Would you get a wider Meplat with a 30 cal. die.
Mold found, still looking for a die body.

all he needs is a shoulder shape and the correct diameter.
40 cases fired from most pistols come out at about 424,,, older glocks? closer to 430 at the bottom.
anyway if the shoulder before the sloping shoulder is 429 or so it'll work.

Kevin. annealing the cases helps.
you can set the bullet in the open case and torch them both at the same time, don't try it on a case with the mouth folded over the lead.
but you won't fill the case as much if you melt the lead into the case and may have to add in a little more alloy to get it filled entirely.

one more thing.
the 40 cases have different capacities.
there will be about 5grs difference between the various brands.

When I was doing this, I did a lot of weighing.
I learned that most brands had a variance of 5 to 10 grs within the same brand.
Blazer's were the BEST, the variance was 3grs.

Blazers were good.
the federals i was finding about 6-7 years back were really good too, after weighing about a hundred [random] of them i gave up and called it good on them.

Make sure you sort the cases........., I knew CW would find a way to unload or find a home for his SPP 10mm brass sooner or later.......................
