There seems to be an " uncertainty " in the air as to the availability of reloading components.

I'm in pretty good shape on brass with the exception of .44 Mag.
So, I ordered 500 ea. , once fired.
The brass arrived today.

Guess that I'll sleep a little better tonight.
Who knows tomorrow ? ?

Greetings
Last time I was at the Starline place they had all brass in stock. That was about 2 weeks back so cannot comment on today.

Hello again
Just checked Starline and they have all brass in stock minus the 32 S&W. Looks like 44 mag is 21 cents each in a batch of 500 shipping included.
Internet still amazes me. Near 5500 miles away and it is easier than going to the corner store.

Super price. It is good to read the standard cases are available again on the used market.

For me it is the other components that are worrysome. I'm debating biting the bullet and ordering large & small rifle primers even though I have to pay the hazmat!
If I just look at 5000 Large rifle primers with the prices on line, plus hazmat plus shipping ...minus PA sales tax I'm still at the prices of my LGS ( $35 per 1000) but then I have to pay them PA sales tax! so the online companies really are looking good....... wish the powders I need were available also

The trick when ordering primers and powders is to make it such a large order that hazmat costs are minor per unit. I have often put a large order together with friends (a Group Buy, if you will).

Just a thought...

I ordered 25 K pistol primers a few years back from Powder Valley. Spread over that many it was a mere blip in the price. Idiot I was back then I only got 5K SP and 20 K LP. Then I bought a 9mm. Bet you know what ran out first.......

I used to think that a brick of primers would last forever. Now I get worried when I get below 20K of any flavor. I also used to think I'd never need to buy SR primers....

I've been snapping up an hoarding affordable brass as I find if for years, almost feel like I have enough now. It's good to be a casual shooter and not having to have pedigreed, top-shelf brass for everything, in fact I usually end up shooting with my odds and ends of a caliber first and saving my matched headstamp stuff for "later". Been running the same 400-ish rounds of mixed-bag 45 ACP and 200 rounds of .30-30 for years now, I lose or scrap a few here and there but the lots just keep on going.

I've been stocking up as I go ,my Ms just goes along with it .
20 yr ago I felt like 1000 primers on the shelf and a carton working of LR ,LP and SP was plenty .......... now I buy a carton of each as available almost every trip to "the city". I'm bracing for the next "big rush" when everything becomes unobtainable again . I guess I've about 10-12 k of each. I guess I should put 209 s back on the list now that I'm thinking about it.
Lead i used to scrounge pretty hard ,then it just seemed to follow me home probably a ton or so ready for the pot and a couple of 5 gallon buckets to run to scrape the crud off.
Brass is stored up in 3 20mm cans plus sort cans all over .....
I set a goal of 1000 per cartridge but that some how no longer seems sufficient, maybe because of the new shooters coming up or maybe it's induced.......

Too bad we have such a motivated salesman , I am glad we can still be such motivated buyers .

J, if you get on the various vendors mailing lists and watch your emails closely, most of them have sales two or three times a year where ( With a minimum order pf 5000 or so.) they pay the hazmat fee. That is the only time I buy primers,

I now have several thousands of .38 special cases I have acuired for free as range pickups, but my main "batch" was a batch of 500 once fired I bought around 1970. They are getting old now. I lose two or three % each time I load them but I still have over 400 in that tub.

My main goal each time I visit the range is to come home with more cases than I took. I rarely fail.

I have 1500+ 38 special, 3500+ 9mm, and 2000+ 45 ACP. I just bought 500 new Starline 44 mag cases and soon will add a similar number of new Starline 44 special.

Brass is something one just can't have too much of. Sort of like lead. And powder. And primers........

Ben,
Thanks for the kick in the pants, via the Link. I actually had them in my cart over the weekend at Widener's but was procrastinating making a purchase But This morning on the "Today" show they had a news story about how high Gun sales are going this Christmas and I Thought back to a Few Christmases ago ( I had a Sizable Primer & Powder order in my Shopping cart at PowderValley but Decide I had time & didn't need the expense around the Holidays Come that January Everything was gone! and stayed that way for more then a year and a half (I'm sure you guys remember that:oops:) So I Went for it this morning!

William, I did not know about the specials for "Waived Hazmat fees" Thanks I know I'm on Widiner's mailing list I also have ordered from 3rd Generation Supply & Powder Valley but I never get e-mails from them
Would you mind sharing a few good places online for components that have these special sales?

I remember during The scare I noted above: I ran Gunbot on all my computers day & night ( even at work ) with the alarm set and Volume on high.
It took 3 such alerts in the middle of the night for me to get some primers! The two times previous I started ordering as soon as they came into stock but before I could hit the "place order" button they were sold out!
That was a very bad time. I remember going into my favorite LGS and their entire Reloading component section was empty for more that a year!

The part that really irked me was how long it took to get CCI #11 percussion caps after that last big shortage. Couldn't even buy tap'o'cap tools or toy caps for a long time, either. I was threatening to go back to rock locks for a while, but fortunately things eventually let up.

I think what's saving us from an even worse shortage at the moment is most of us are broke just like the whole country is. The scalpers are probably still maxed on credit card debt from the post-Sandy Hook scarf up. We're in a huge AR-15 glut and ammo is abundant for all the popular calibers now, so people buying up all these new toys should enjoy a good supply of "feed" for them for a while yet. The reloading supplies usually get hit AFTER loaded ammunition starts to get scarce.

sad when you can order stuff shipped right from the maker cheaper than you can buy it at the store.

I just convinced myself I only need a little more lead and that I'm good on bout everything else for a while.
then I see everybody else is thinking the same thing I am about not being too sure whether I really have enough or not.

My empathy for manufacturers and distributors of reloading supplies and components is at a rather low ebb after 7+ years of low- or no-supplies for us end users. I'm doing about 5%-10% of the shooting I was doing prior to the shortage's onset, and haven't loaded a cartridge in 18 months. The shortage is not the only aggravating factor--add in illnesses and a disrupted employment picture for my wife, and hobby/diversion time took a back seat for a while. Still, I'm fervently hoping that every hoarder, stripper, and flipper with a maxed-out Mastercard has to put ketchup on all those primers and 22 LR ammo they are sitting on and NOT selling for $100 per brick. Predators and parasites of that sort can all go pound sand. I expect a vendor to make a reasonable profit on his/her wares, and don't mind supporting a seller so engaged--but $85-$100 for 50-year-old Montgomery Ward 22 LR bricks (it's "collectible", one vulture added) is off the hook.
