don't fall for it, it's a ruse, they are propagating the devil in disguise.
they are too damn smart, and need to play too much.
they only sleep during the day time, get up early [which means you get up early,,, trust me on this one] and think of way's to
tear stuff up when you ain't looking.
they are very family oriented and protective.
but you got to watch them.
they think they need to go everywhere with everyone in the family and can consume their own body weight daily in stuff like dog food, cat food, shoes, leaves ,sticks, plastic, paper, ball caps, stuffed animals, more sticks, grass, the bag of grass seed you just bought, the daughters new flip-flops, the cat box, a couple more sticks, some bones.
and that's just breakfast.

this isn't the actual offender, since her trial hasn't gone to court yet we can't show her actual face.
but you get the idea.

Sept. 10, 2021 Steve left us. You are missed.
I let my dogs go with me in the pickup often times, the problem is now they think if that pickup is leaving they should be in it. Have to pen them up to keep them from following me down the highway if I can't take them with.

Yep. The dog is standing next to or lying under the pickup whenever there's a chance I'm going somewhere. Need to get another dog to keep her company... Soon!

the wife has found it's easier to just take her than to try and get out the door without her.
if she even hears car keys jingle she sits or lays by the door blocking it so you can't get out.
I don't think it helps that she has a companion that looks like this.

th

but thinks it is really one of these.

I miss having dogs, but as the wife and I are pushing 80 the hard way,
we got a cat instead. The cat (Albert: named after a friend who hated
cats) provides a lot of smiles for the better half and myself, is low
maintenance, doesn't require walking etc. AND at our ages lots of
smiles add a lot to sanity.

I like dogs and cats both, but right now the only pets my wife and I can deal with are cats. We have two fine felines that provide a lot of love w/o being as needy as a dog. Maybe in the future...

Sounds like she's about got you trained Lamar .
I can't image not having at least one dog around. Tough part is they don't live long enough, especially the good ones. I've got a 7 year old female lab wasting away now from kidney failure. She's lost over 50 lbs since January, and the vet figures it's from Lymes, even after having the vaccine. She looks like a bag of bones with a hide thrown over her. She's still drinking but eats very little. Wouldn't even eat a slice of cheese yesterday, but helped me with a tuna sandwich a little while ago. Vet can't do anything, so it's just a matter of time. She isn't in any obvious pain so I'll keep her around until she can't navigate. Still have four other labs, one, a nice chocolate male pup, from the only litter she had. Her mother is 12 now and full of cancer. Obvious masses, with one in her throat that is getting bigger and probably be what does her in. She had one litter also and I kept three of her pups. She's still full of P&G and may be around quite awhile. Won't be too long and my kennel will be three males. Enjoy them while you have them.

I wasn't going to go there, but since you did... Our 4 year old pitbull has totally worn out rear knees with arthritis and bone spurs. We're going to get the right one worked on and hope that the left one stops getting worse. My daughter would shoot me if I don't spend our last dime trying to get the dog back on all four feet.

It's always a tough call. My vet said she could put her on an IV for a couple days, at $400.00 per day, but it wouldn't change the outcome. I admire her honesty, because all vets are not that honest.

hehe . . . no, she would never watch me shoot. My brave fearless hunting dog does not like guns. Don't even need to fire it, just get one out and she runs for cover. Dunno why she's like that, she's never been particularly close to any shooting, never seen anything get shot.

they know.
some don't even wanna see one other are like flipping a switch when they see it come out.

I had a little silver Lab named Five that was strictly business about hunting.
the place we lived at the time had a big pasture that dropped down to the river and we could shoot out there.
down along the river was a pretty wild place since it was hard to access and there was all kinds of game running through the area.
bears and Mtn. Lions would use the canyon as a throughway in the spring and fall.
but it also held a lot of birds on the pools, and rock chucks up and down the canyon.
anyway we had a little cement pad poured in front of the garage and it had an awning over the top we would sit under in the afternoons.
it also happened to be a good spot to shoot collared doves, starlings, and pigeons in the summer.
we were sitting out there one afternoon and the starlings kept coming by to go out to the water trough and she finally had enough.
the FIL and BIL were sitting out there with me and heard her coming up the stairs, they couldn't believe what she was carrying when she got there.
she went in the door in the garage and downstairs and grabbed my shotgun in the soft case and carried it out to me.
apparently she wanted to shoot some birds.

Hilarious!

My last dog came running to action closing sounds. The current one isn't gun shy but is a scaredy cat otherwise.

This one isn't a scaredy cat but if she hears a noise outside at night and she doesn't know what it is does she go investigate to protect me and the homestead? Not hardly, she runs and gets her bone to protect that. Whatever that noise is ain't gonna get the most valuable thing in the house.

As long as we're telling dog stories........ Where I hunt pheasant in SD there is a convenient store/ gas station type place I patronize when I'm there. Typical place with a sub/pizza/ video rental place with a couple booths, where the locals have coffee in the morning or pizza at night. Several years back I was sitting there waiting for a pizza after I'd shot my birds that day. A guy came in and we got to talking about hunting. Turns out he was a foreman on one of the larger farms in the area and said he had access to lots of ground. Turns out he liked Shorthairs. Over the years I'd see him on occasion there and the conversation always went to birds and dogs. He was partial to Shorthairs and didn't make any bones about it, never said it, but didn't care much for Labs. Every time I saw him he was bragging on his two Shorthairs and how adept they were in any situation. I usually hunt Monday through Friday to avoid the crowds, and he worked a regular Monday through Friday. He had invited me to hunt with him on several occasions, but schedules never let that happen. I was out there on a Tuesday through Saturday hunt late season, and just starting to get my dogs out of the van on the Saturday morning, the last day of my hunt. I'd just got one dog out, Tracker, the sire to my current kennel, when a truck came heading towards us. I healed tracker, and the truck pulled up along side us. This guy jumps out and his two Shorthairs bail out with him. We exchange greetings and he asked if I wanted to go hunt a piece of private ground he had permission on. I didn't really want to go where he was talking about because it was about 12 miles farther from home for me and I only needed three birds to fill out. His dogs were making the rounds this whole time and nosing a little strip of grass adjacent to the road. About that time I noticed Tracker bumping my leg, thinking he wanted to go check out these two new dogs, I told him ok. He literally walked over to the strip of grass the Shorthairs had been through a couple times and dug up the remains of a dead rooster!! The guy couldn't get out of there fast enough. Good thing I was wearing a stocking hat and it had some stretch to it!
