I lived in Alaska for a while and watched the start if two Iditarods, the dogs on those sled teams are a lot smaller than I'd have guessed. Makes sense, lower to the ground and can pull harder for any given weight, also easier for the musher to get them back on trak when they get tangled up or stuck in something.
I read about a guy who raised an Iditarod team of poodles and actually completed the race with them and did not come in last.
