No you won't find it in their catalogue..it's me destroying another mold...

I got bored this week with the weather and all..so on the spirit of the moment I decided what the heck Lee molds are inexpensive enough and it does have two cavities so why not ...out came the 5/16" HS bit and the mold..

With out any fanfare I chucked up the bit ,set the depth stop..turn on the drill press and took aim...
BOY THOSE ARE SOFT...ZIP...deed done..

I had some alloy in the pot so that got heated up...I cast 16 or so ..culled aggressively...and got 15 that I thought may shoot...:)...lubed them up with BR and lightly rolled them in BLL...

I was going to try them in the 30-30 first but the weather is not so good for iron sights right now...so the Remington 700 .308VS was chosen..it's got a scope ..at least I can see the target in this weather..:mad::mad:

Using what little knowledge and experience I have I decided to try two loadings ..one with 7.8 grains of Universal and one with 7.5...Thinking 7.5 was a little low I only loaded 5 rounds of those..like I said I only have a little experience.. the target proved me wrong.."AGAIN"
100 yds off bags..

Well.. whatever.. the gas check version of this bullet works well in the 700...I guess the Bubba'd Plain Base is going to as well...happy days..got to get bored more often...;)

Dan, check your barrel for leading.

Ian...are you looking at the holes from the 7.8 gr loads ?

Those were shot first..they are a little strange..I could have been cleaning out some fouling..or they could be stripping..
either way I will check the barrel..

It started raining half way through the first group ..so when I got home I concentrated on wiping down the gun rather than checking the bore..
I really don't like chambering wet rounds....I am surprised it bothered me so...

I assumed you shot the 7.5 grain load first, and it seemed rational seeing the yawing and darkened holes from the 7.8 grain load, classic signs that the first inch of the barrel had leaded up and the successive bullets were getting undersized and unstable. Guess not?

Dan,
When Ben got me hooked on PB's moulds I did my 165 Ranch Dog NOE came out excellent....first time out I then did an 8mm lee Same results!

Then I did my 8mm Noe ranch dog 175 Gr My first attempt was slightly off center..... but it shot great! But it just Bugged Me!
THEN! I figured I could correct it .....never do this! I got it re-centered but took out the bottom lube groove! I now call that one my NOE "Ugly Dog"!!!
and that is what it looks like! The only good thing is it shoots great as long as I BR & BLL it otherwise I get leading!

I have seen this in my shooting.... I was surprised that .3 grains made such a difference myself

Years ago, I was amazed also Kevin, not any more, as I just accept it. I am
however still amazed at how .1 gr difference in small ctgs in particular, can
make a difference in accuracy. A small difference, but a difference non
the less.

Actually if you consider that the present philosophy when working up loads in larger cases with slow burning powders one would start with say 27 grains and work up in .5 grain increments. ... ..3 grains is guite a large jumb in comparison when working with fast powders that start with a third of what one would with the slower powders...
