It's an old,flatback reciever..... before the socket head.
And that ain't beech,it's upstate NY cherry.
Look up,Savage "bolt lift kit" for lightening effort to...... uhh,lift the bolt. The way they come from the factory is pretty durn Fred Flintstone,and that's being nice.
Nat Lambeth down in NC has probably the "slickest" way to do it,and may help the search. But,that's for the new socket cap "big screw" models.Whichever method you use,it's a heck of a lot easier to lift bolt..... more of a BR idea so as to not disturb the rifle whilst in the bags. But useful on any Savage... and just a nice,easy Saturday project.
BTW,that BP mill was less $$ than a "bar tab" by some of the more serious playa's. You just need to be ready to travel.... I went 8hrs round trip,which is nuthin for the right piece.
