Lyman Cyclone Tumbler

After lubing and sizing a few hundred Mil-Surp. .30-.06. (It turns out the S.L. brass was 55 not 53.) Any way.....I really like my Lyman Cyclone better than my old Thumbler tumblers, but it often leaks. I'll stop it and retighten the lid a couple of times and maybe I'll get it to not leak while it is running for the couple of hours I typically run it.

Well today I was setting it up when I remembered that I coat the "O" ring on my well's water filter with petroleum jelly to prevent leaks and tried it with the gasket on the Cyclone. Ta dah! No leaks. Not a drop. Just thought I'd pass that on.

I use silicone grease on the water filter O-rings so it doesn't swell them, but maybe a little swelling is what they need? Might use petrolatum next time.

My Cyclone will seal every time if I screw the lid on tightly.
I make sure the gasket is wet.
I have had leaks but have found a sneaky SS pin on the gasket somewhere..

Mine was hit or miss. I alway search for the elusive pin(s), I use a cow bolus magnet for pin pickup. I tightened as tight as I could get it, tried wet, and dry. About every other time it would leak. Then I remembered picking up a new O ring for the inline water filter and griping to the gal at the dairy supply store about having leaks. She told me the techs recommend Vaseline for the O ring. I never had a leak from the filter since. So I tried it on the Cyclone and no leak. Hopefully that will continue to be the case.

Now those darned pins. Every time I look I find another one in the area I work in. I keep a couple of bolus magnets right on the side board of the old sink to collect them with.

My Frankford leaks too. It does better if the seal is wet when I put the lid on. Wet tumbling is so much better than dry, ive got a buzz bucket that hasn’t been ran in 4or 5 years. I absolutely hate the dust.

Who just did the post on using rice in a vibratory tumbler? I saw it somewhere. Looked like it make good sense to me. There are times I want to dry tumble stuff and I agree, the dust is worry some. Probably the single most dangerous part of reloading as far as lead contamination goes.
