Made my first batch of BLL today.

Two weeks ago I made a batch of Ben's Red and followed up today with a batch of BLL. No excuses now! Lube 'em up and shoot 'em!

Thanks Ben, Malcolm

Your ready. The BLL comes together quickly, and a little dab will do ya.

I've had very good luck using BLL. I've used it as a stand alone lube in a 30-30 @ 2000fps with great accuracy and clean bore. A little goes a LONG ways!

You will like both lubes for sure. I used Ben's Red for 3 years with total satisfaction. For the last year I've used nothing but BLL for rifle and handgun with the same cold and hot weather performance.

Just developed a load for my .308 @ 2400+ fps. with 3 coats of BLL.
Gives me the same 1st shot performance as Ben's Red.

Congrats on your new lubes!

I hope I did it right, it looks a little thin. I used 35% Lunsford wax, 35% Alox and 30% mineral spirits. This is just the first coat, I will add a second tomorrow. I have shaken the stuff for about 20 Min and still have a little of the wax that is the size of sawdust, it that normal?
Thanks, Malcolm

Malcolm, you used way too much. Should be any puddles like that. I mean you used about 10-20 items too much. That will take some time to dry.
Take 50 of those bullets and use about 40-50 DROPS. Swirl well in a plastic tub then dump out to dry. The coating should be gin enough that it is almost invisible.

Good thing is you have a mix that will last a lot longer that way.

Thanks, I thought I may have "over did" it on those. I will let these dry and try to do better on the next batch.

Hey, you have to learn somehow. Ever think we know how much to use because we did the same thing? Took me a bit of them to realize that I was coating bullets, not drowning them.

Yep, way too much.
Brad made a good suggestion, but i only use about 10 to 12 drops in a bowl for 50
bullets. Let dry and coat again 3 times for rifle.

Even after 3 light coats the bullets will have only a bronze haze on them around the grooves. That's all it takes.

I will try the "drops" next time on my new Lee 200 GR HP bullet. I am planning to try it in my 35 Rem. and 358 Win.
Thanks again!

A good rule of thumb for me has been...if there is any run-off on the wax paper after tumbling, i've used too much BLL.
It's amazing how little it takes.

That lee 200 gr. 35 cal. should be a good one for you. I have the noe version of that bullet and it is very accurate in my 35 whelen.

Yes, it is amazing how little it takes. I put one coat on some .38 wadcutters that was so thin it only coated the surface of the bands and the ends of the bullets, you couldn't even see it, only feel the slight tack. There was enough that after one cylinder the revolver had a light, greasy film around the cylinder gap and cylinder, and the load even produced a little lube smoke.

Hey guys, I used the "drop" method on the second coat and it worked great and dried much quicker too. Ya'll don't tell Ben how I messed up on my first attempt. I will give his BLL a bad name;).

Too much is BAD. I did a drop each/per coat/3 coats on 170gr in the 30/30. Took forever to get the barrel clean. 1/2 drop/2 boolits worked in the BO. By drops, I used a piece of weedeater string dipped in the bottle and dropped on a boolit. More like a drip.

I haven't tried counting drops, just squirt a dime sized puddle in a plastic tub and roll 30 or so bullets in it and dump.

I apply tumble lube with heat.
I heat the lube.
I heat the bullets.
then I use a fork to drip the lube on and just swirl everything around.
then I dump it out on a wax paper coated cookie sheet in front of a fan in the summer and the shop heater in the winter.
the extra heat on the boolits helps the mineral spirits evaporate, and the lube flows around everything better which means the lube dries quicker.
