Modification to a Laser Bore Sighter

I have found that a laser bore sighter is very useful in setting up a red dot sight, especially on a handgun. I wanted to use what I had on hand to do this on my Ruger SS .32 H&R. I started with a laser for 9x19, which I didn't think I'd need anymore. The first step was to turn down the case-replicate part to a cylindrical .374 dia. With the laser on, I held it in a bore size collet so that the dot would show thru the lathe spindle on the wall. When the spindle rotated I could see if the laser was coaxial with the spindle. A few tweaks and it was. A few very light cuts took it to .374 dia. without disturbing the position.

A .302 dia. gage pin had a very nice fit in the muzzle. Then a very simple matter to make an adapter to hold the laser and gage pin. As other bore sizes are needed a different adapter can be made. The laser will probably still work in 9x19 by just the fit into the breech end of the bore. The worked really well.
