Drove down to Texas with my sister and niece to see a family member get married this weekend. On the way home, we stopped to see this and go through the Museum. I was stationed on Fort Riley and living ust outside Junction City, Kansas when this happenned and all the connections with my community made this even painful. I have to admit to getting pretty teary eyed yesterday looking at everything. I recommend to anybody who's in the area to stop by and spend some time looking and reflecting on things.

My sister worked in that building and was in early that morning and out for an appointment. She heard the blast miles away. Her car was parked almost directly across from the truck. Car was destroyed, along with my baby blanket which was getting dropped off for dry cleaning that afternoon on the way home. I was supposed to get it for my birthday. Had she been in the building she would have been a conference room facing the bomb in the part that collapsed. Several people she worked with did not survive. It was several hours when my mother called me to say she was alright. Phone comms were disrupted enough she was able to get thru only to a friend in Arkansas who in turn called my folks. I had already retired from the Army the previous August and was working as the computer lab supervisor at a local community college. Needless to say a tv remained on in the lab for several hours that day.

Yes, the memorial is quite a sobering place.
