No one likes to trim cases I know...But...

My old trimer is dull, won't cut anymore. I do still need to trim sometimes.

Can anyone here sharpen the cutting edge on this trimmer or anyone have a spare that they can part with ? Or advice??

Just wanted to start here before I purchase something that I need but don't use often..

Upon the advice of the folks here with a cheap diamond knife sharpening stone I sharpened the old Herters 1 piece shaft and cutter . Count strokes on the cutting face matching for each "tooth" . I didn't get "new" tool but I did get a huge improvement.

I have an RCBS, Forster, and Dad's Herters circa 1972 . The RCBS and Forster have replaceable cutters . I would think if the Hornady is later than about 1990 it would also have a replaceable cutter too . Holding the shaft and cutter are the hardest part of making a change. Fortunately if you ran a wet shaft the threads will be greased .

Can you send me A Photo of the trimmer? I have a Hornady I don’t use and it is just taking up space.

...

Maybe you bought mine!;)

I SOLD one in the mid-eighties. Nothing wrong with it, really. I especially like that you could use press shell-holders with it. I had grown up with the L. E. Wilson trimmer and did not realize they still made them. When I found that out, I got one and sold the Pacific.

I don't know what Speer puts their bullets in these days, but when I was buying Speer, 44 cal. half-jackets for $6 per hundred, they came in the yellow, plastic boxes. I cut the lid off one, carved a semicircle into the top end of each end and it fit into the space between the cutter and shell-holder as a catch-bin for the trimmings. It caught probably 98% of the trimmings and made clean-up easy.
