Pearl Harbor Day

At large, whereabouts unknown.
They're almost all gone now. I think I read somewhere that there are no living WWII Medal of Honor recipients left.

It was 80 years ago... The WWII Vets were my heroes when I was growing up. All of the ones I knew are long gone now. :sigh:

The ship's bells from the USS Arizona are displayed at the University of Arizona. As an undergraduate I passed by the bell in the student union several times a week, often thinking about December 7th as I saw the bell.

Calendars used to have notations for significant dates in U.S. history such as Pearl Harbor, D-Day, VE and VJ days and others. Not so much anymore.

I had some WWII and Korea vets as mentors early in my military career, kept me in line..., mostly. My Dad was a WWII vet and Mom worked for Republic Aircraft..., I didn't get away with much.

I am in awe of those people! When I was a Battion Ops NCO our Comm Chief's Dad was a Pearl Harbor Survivor. He met with us at a military funeral once and told us what happened - he was on the USS Tennessee and [I think] stayed on it for the rest of the war. It was a chilling account.
