Rainbows in July

IMG_1519.JPG Have not had a lot of time to fish this year. Took Mrs. Waco up the McKinzie this morning and landed a few Rainbow trout. Forgot how peaceful it can be on the river when it's hot with a nice ice cold adult beverage.

Catch and release? Rainbows are some good eating with lemongrass, salt, pepper, butter, wrapped in foil and cooked with everything except the gills and guts.

Nice work, Waco.

They stock browns in our local lakes each fall. Fun little flippy floppers to catch.

I've taken to filleting them, picking the bones out, grill them on a water soaked cedar plank, & seasoned with lemon pepper. Mmm, now I'm hungry.

Beautiful fish.

I have caught cutthroat up in the mtns in Wyoming for many years, and tons of little 'lunch sized" brookies, too.

I bring them home at times. The wife had a nice dinner planned that night and the don't keep all that well IMHO.
We are allowed 5 per day though from end of April through October 31 IIRC.

A favorite memory, catching trout at Roaring River, Missouri one summer. I was the only person to catch that day. Cooked them in a skillet wrapped with bacon. Mmmm. Put two on ice for breakfast, they didn't keep thru the night. We don't have trout in La., but a stringer of bluegills sure does fry up good. Need to get back to fly fishing for 'em. GW

I love Bluegill as well! Camping we salt and pepper the trout, put a bit of Mayo inside them with a slice of lemon. Wrap in foil and throw on the camp fire coals. Pretty tasty.

A neighbor and I had a stream we used to fish. Brownies in. Most were under 10". But when you set the hook on anything bigger you were in for a tussle.
I once had a pair of otter swim by me at only a couple of feet. I knew the fishing was done for the day.

IMG_1521.JPG Here is a big native "red side" we caught on the same stretch of river a couple years ago.
