Re stocking a Mauser

I let this sit a few days with two other projects going on same time.
Got back yesterday and found a split had developed from bolt notch forward 2-2.5". Apparently Im a bit tight. Its a easy fix and hurts nothing. Better found now while easily fixed in reason and result. Glue and a clamp for a day fixed crack and 15 minutes with a dremel should have relieved issue at root cause.

I did decide to stain stock. Something I rarely do. But the streaks repairs and overall lightness of this wood compelled me to stain. I had a piece cut from butt to test and decided upon Mahogany. Now looks rich and has better depth.
Before that I whiskered the stock 4 times rubbled with 0000 wool then good sticky pad whiped, followed by acetone cleaning and then stain.

Finish should start today.

Got three coats of finish on the stocks. Enough ta protect then during bedding.

Today, I started bedding tge bottom metal. This is a bit complicated. Hope I haven't just "glued" the bottom Metal into the stock... (Same Worry every time we bed a action...)

once it's in there no need to take it out anyway.
two of my hunting rigs are permanently part of their wood handles from butt stock to forearm tip.
i guess if i wear a barrel out i'm buying a new stock too,, but i should be so lucky.

WOOHOO!!

She popped out! Bedding looks REAL good too. I would have liked a lil more compound so it filled more recesses. But its 100% where it should be.

I cleaned everything, stuffed edges and after more release coats mixed more bedding and made a pad in front to make support for first 1.5" of barrel.

I dont love the looks of this 1-4 Leupold. Im looking thru my optic cabinet. (Because of my recient purge to change to 30mm)
I really need ta sell off these extra scopes.
