I let this sit a few days with two other projects going on same time.
Got back yesterday and found a split had developed from bolt notch forward 2-2.5". Apparently Im a bit tight. Its a easy fix and hurts nothing. Better found now while easily fixed in reason and result. Glue and a clamp for a day fixed crack and 15 minutes with a dremel should have relieved issue at root cause.
I did decide to stain stock. Something I rarely do. But the streaks repairs and overall lightness of this wood compelled me to stain. I had a piece cut from butt to test and decided upon Mahogany. Now looks rich and has better depth.
Before that I whiskered the stock 4 times rubbled with 0000 wool then good sticky pad whiped, followed by acetone cleaning and then stain.
Finish should start today.
