This thread led my thoughts back to one of the great unsung heroes of handgunning. Long ago I learned of the work of John Lachuk with both cast bullet design and development, especially as it pertains to the 44 Special, and the 44 magnum. I guess I just wanted to see his name brought up again, and I can unreservedly recommend his writings to anyone interested in the field. There's a lot of history that revolves around John, and his contemporaries like Ray Thompson, Gordon Boser, and the relatively unheard of Elmer Keith. Elmer got most of the press, but it was all a group effort of many people.
