Do not despair yet. I have a 1873 Winchester in 32-20 that is pitted with interrupted rifling. Rifling that is gone in areas. Used it for years as my ground hog rifle. Still shoots an oversized .315 PB bullet to minute of ground hog out to 35 yards.
Have a Krag Sporter that key holed at 25 yards. Took a bunch of cleaning and found a fat RN 220 grain mold that drops 50-50 at .316. Shoots good enough to hit bowling pins at 100 yards off cross sticks.
You may still have a bunch of junk in those grooves.
