Ha. My son took a summer job commercial roofing in Dallas (hot tar, GF's dad's Co). Didn't last long. Lost lots of weight, wasn't heavy to begin.

Just looked at the price at the Shell station in Castaic, CA where I made my escape from. $5.39 a gallon.

Las Cruces was always my halfway point betwixt here and Big Bear.
As far as towns go; I liked it.
Rock on and be safe!

Well we left Abilene this morning relatively early, heading into a low gray horizon knowing it was going to rain. BUT, holy crap!! Rain became serious, wind was blowing about a constant 20 and gusts into the low 30’s. About 1/4 mile ahead a women and 3 kids young teens spun out, I suspect they were hydro planning and just lost it. Tore about the front foot off the car and was blocking both lanes. Looked like everyone was ok.

Pulled into a gas station to fill up and get more coffee. Just pulled away from the pumps when about maybe a half mile down the power line lighting struck a pole and exploded the transformer. Big flash then the power went out in the station. Power came back on but now is off and looks like it’s going to stay off. I was looking for a place to sit for a bit. I was starting to hydroplane some and kept backing off the speed.
So going to wait for a bit.

Wise decision grasshopper, very wise indeed.

As of 40 minutes ago, you're right in the middle of a flash flood warning area.
Keep your eye balls peeled!

$3.12ish here just a little south of the weeks stay . I figured $4/gal as a loose average . It only gets worse at $5 bucks .

Well I left off at a gas station just short of Midland in one of the worst downpour rain storms I’ve ever been in. 360 degree lightning strikes and I mean some pretty close. Wind was blowing and gusting and I was just waiting for a tornado to touchdown.
And the drama finally started to lighten up a bit still with heavy wind and rain in bursts.
As we reached Odesa things were looking up. Finally got to Las Cruces and a KOA for the night. Showered up and off we went heading for Cousin Bob in Marana. Bob lives about 10 to 15 miles east of Marana on the end of a dirt road. Nice place. Saguaro cactus and other high desert plants. Bob did a little BBQ for us and afterwards we went out to watch for a comet that was supposed to be visible in the western sky just after sunset. We came up short on any sightings of comets. Oh well back to the porch and a cold beverage.

Picture was before the BBQ and comet missed event. But you get the idea, relaxing in a chair other than behind a steering wheel.
Next morning got coffee made and stepped out to watch the sunrise in the desert. Always a special time of day. Sunrises anywhere are great, but in the desert they are spectacular.

These pictures are out Bob’s backyard.
Well it was time to leave after some coffee with Bob.

Well off to Yucaipa in California. Gas prices were $3.19, and started to creep up to $3.59 as we reached the boarder. The first station in California was a Chevron and $5.69 for regular up to $6 something for premium. People still looked sort of human, desert look like we were still on the same planet, but the gas prices are out of this world.
Well we finally got to Yucaipa Regional Park and found our site for the rest of the week.

Just getting set up, hooked up and level. The Biscuit is standing guard.
Later in early evening Alfonso and Barbara came to say hi and shoot the breeze for a couple hours. Good people. Al has been my brother since the mid 60’s.

Well we have 7,960 miles under our belt as we arrived in Yucaipa.
We are trying to sort out seeing a bunch of people this week, Andrei wants me to drive into Long Beach with the trailer, but I’m not interested in driving into the belly of the Beast with a trailer behind. I’ll drive in but not with the trailer.

Brandy, Brandy’s grandson Revan and Courtney. Pictures are strange because of the green sunscreens.
Anyway good time. This is my family of a different mother. Grew up with Alfonso.
