Anyone here shooting one? Should have my custom sizing die from Buckshot any day now. Did run a box of Hornady 325 grain hollow points through it just cause I couldn't stand it anymore. Clearly she can be a beast but my plans are to load at 1050-1100 fps. Both moulds I have drop at 388 grains. They will be lubed with Bens Red and a coat of Bens Liquid Lube. Looking forward to testing.

I thought about one but my wrists decided it wasn't a good idea.
I like the cartridge, looks like the right level of power for hunting. Much more and it becomes more than most people really need.

I had the opportunity to fire an srh in 480. My wife & I both really enjoyed it. It has a nice rolling recoil. It doesn't hurt you. It has less sharpness during recoil than a 44mag imo.

The fellow that let us shoot his was using cast 350-400gr boolits he made. I don't recall the charge however, they weren't liight. I still wouldn't classify it as a super magnum.

In the end I picked up the 454 instead because it allows me to load light-insane ammo to suit our desires. I would not pass on a smoking deal on the 480 though.

Agree on the power. That's why I'm loading it down some. The only thing I've shot that was more brutal on my hands is my SBH with the round trigger guard. That short grip makes it difficult to hold on when squeezing off a 300 grainer at max levels. Heavy loaded 44 mags I find have a sharper impulse than this 480.

You might be able to get away with just tumble lube at the velocity you mention. I've tried numerous loads with red dot, tightgroup, & others to 800-1100fps in the 454 with 454510tl. Haven't tried the Bll yet. Might save the red for stuff a bit faster unless you need it.

Appreciate the advice. Think I'll try some loads comparing FWFL to Bens Red then some with Bens Liquid Lube. May combo Bens lubes. Just to test accuracy with different lubes. FWFL has always given very good results in my handguns. Want to see how Bens Red compares. I'm thinking it will perform well. Need to get to testing it in my Marlin 45-70. Been hosting family about a week and they all left today. Should get some play time now.

When up north in ILLinois I shoot a BFR 475 but not at full power. Shoot far more 350 grainers than 400's. I am convinced any corn cruncher I will ever see up to a 350 pounder will not need more than a 350 grainer at 950-1000 fps at the river bottom ranges I pop bean eaters at. Wide flat nose 50-50 cast will do all I ever need done. The 475 Linebaugh case is a bit longer but I am very happy with 1680 and a standard primer to get this done. 296 will also do the job but a mag primer gives better ignition in the 475 case.

image.jpg Finally received my sizing die. Did a little shooting with the 480 today. Limited time but squeezed in 20 rounds. Shot the NOE 480-375 RF (388 gr) and the MP 477-640 (388 gr). Sized to 478 and lubed with Ben's Red. Started with 13.5 grains of HS6 and a large pistol primer. Forgot to bring my stick on dots for an aiming point so I just winged it. Need a trigger job some kind of bad but it's showing promise. Shot my last MP bullet into backstop and retrieved it. 70/30 + 2% tin looks like a good combo. No chrono today. Not sure what happened on that last shot.image.jpg

image.jpg I do believe this MP bullet will shoot. Fix that trigger then spend some time shooting will improve. Shots were 30 yards off bags. Did take a few 50 yard standing at 20"x20" square plate all hits.

Nice work & thanks for sharing. I like hs6 however, a slower powder and/or mag primer might help group shrinkage. Was that with open sights? I'm aware of ruger triggers needing a bit of refinement.
