Cool weapons system......but semiauto just ruins the fun entirely.
An old friend used to fly AC-47s Puffs in VN. They had three miniguns on that bird. I asked how
it was done, and he said that the original guns would jam about every 1500-3000 rds so a gun was never
firing for more than a minute, usually less. A guy was clearing one, one was on line and one cooling
and being reloaded. Typically only one gun firing most of the time. He said the back door was open
and a crewman with a harness on and tether had an aluminum grain scoop and shoveled links and brass
out the door when the gun was firing. Otherwise, hard to walk around with the brass and links everywhere.
Apparently no chute like the Dillon Aero improved models have.
Turns about a point are something that all pilots train on from early parts of training, so with a gun firing
90 degrees out the side, easy to keep them all in a small area, as long as you have unchallenged
air supremacy.
Official name was "Spooky" but he said everyone called them "Puffs" for "Puff, the Magic Dragon" from the
popular song of the era.
