At this point I’m thinking that the little bare spots that the baskets leave on the side of the bullet are less likely to affect accuracy. I’ve read here many times that a smooth flat base is critical to a good launch. I don’t want any streamers dangling off the back of my bullets.
As far as going on thick. I bought the Eastwood clear gloss because Waco(Walter?) spoke highly of it, it was a TGIC powder(Ian approved), and it could be purchased on Amazon at a good price. I watched Brad’s video on how he powder coats, in it he mentioned the lee dipper he was using. I copied that volume of powder. I watched CW’s video and went with a red Forger’s coffee can for shaking on the Powder(same type of plastic as the Nestle Quick container he uses). I swirl for a count of 35-40 and then dump out into my basket.
Here is the funny part, there is almost no extra powder left under the basket. This Eastwood powder seems to have almost all of it wanting to stick to the bullets. I guess that that is a good thing, I’ve read that some powders just don’t want to stick very well.
I’m thinking that I was worried about a cosmetic attribute, and by fiddling with it ended up with something worse.
