Small 243 cast bullets

I was reading an article about light weight 243 cast bullets. Some in the 40 to 70 some grain being pretty accurate. Anyone on here ever tried lighter, shorter bullets?. About ready to give up on the NOE. Bore rider. Appreciate it..

I have used A 75 grain LBT Spitzer style Used to order these from The Bull Shop! The were pretty accurate if I was shooting them fast.
They weighed in at 78 gr with gas check 17,2 grains of RX7 col 2.538
Here is 8 shots at 100yards It was lubed with Bull Shops green lube! Sorry for the unsharp photo

Interesting. I was looking at the NOE mold. I haven't had much luck even with the Lovering mold I got. I think it's because of the short chamber I have in my savage axis. Spending a lot of time and money of the nose sizers. Oh well. Maybe not ment to be...

That spitzer bullet looks similar to a design sold by Arsenal, I think it's available in 6mm. I have the 6,5mm version, which shoots quite well.

RCBS 6mm-95-SP and Lyman #245496 are my sole moulds in 6mm. The RCBS has shot very well for me in 3 243s. The Lyman Loverin is a close 2nd place. No experience with lighter/shorter castings.

if that 496 was about a half inch longer it'd maybe touch the rifling in my 243.
which is ironic since it'll only shoot 58gr. bullets worth beans... if i keep it scrupulously clean.

Maybe some of the guys with 6mm's can send you a few dozen to try? Worth a shot...

I've never played with a 6mm I recall, but I've always had best luck with fairly heavy for the caliber bullets, sized as fat as the chamber will accept as a place to start. If you have a real short chambered rifle, that can be a problem. Hows it do with jacketed?

Shoots jackets excellent. About 2 1/2 inch at 200 yds. 100 gr bullet..

If it will allow a 100 gr jacketed to fit then it probably isn't short chambered, it's just pretty tight. Have you tried seating your Loverin deeper? They're quite forgiving as far as seating depth.

The SAECO #243 shoots quite well for me. Although a nominal 85 grain bullet, my mold drops them between 92 to 93 grains depending on alloy. These were sized .244 and shot at 2200 feet-per-second using LBT Blue lubricant.

I have that Lyman 85 grain mold, even have some cast up and ready to go. Don't have a .243, but do have a couple of 6mm Remingtons. I need to try this soon.

I can't speak to the 6mm Loverins, but I can for the 7mm's. The 3rd mould I ever had access to was a Loverin 7mm. I didn't have bullet lube, a sizer or even GC's! I wrapped the bullet in plumbers teflon tape as neatly as possible and shot them from my ratty old '93 Mauser 7x57 with a light load of something fairly fast, Unique probably. Amazingly enough, they shot pretty good at 50 yards. I mean like 2" groups from a standing rest against a tree, which was all the "bench" I had at the time.

Point is, you'll never know until you shoot them! What works in one gun may or may not work in another.

That's the one I ordered. Makes one plain base and one gas check one. How are you doing with the loverin plain base bullets?
I cast some and lubed them and put them in a jar.
That's the story so far.
.
I've been thinking of dreaming up a load using Blue dot...I'll get to it one day, LOL.
