You know those days when you don't even dare to think "what else c---- p______ g- w____" just because you're very likely to get a demonstration ?

This has been a bad quarter for my friends .
A childhood friend of my kids lost her husband and daughter in a car accident that had to be nothing short of fate .
My best friend lost his wife last month .
Today a friend I've not met in person , but exchanged goods and jibes with almost daily for the last 10 years ,lost his daughter in a car accident and his grand daughter who was ejected is in an ICU . I guess as far as the accident goes ejection was probably a good thing since the other car was a train .

If y'all would put in a good word for Amber , Tony , Greg , and Kadie that'd great .
Kind thoughts and prayers enroute!

Picked up some extra wheels for SWMBO Explorer. Dude wouldn't budge on price. Still half what the "Auto dismantlers" want. And this AM I located some snows for the beater-with-a-heater Burb. Supposed to have another load of stone arriving soon.

Went to the dentist for the first time in...decades? Everything is good except 2 broken teefs. I knew about one, but not the other. Doc says no worries unless I want some cosmetic type filling. Seems like a waste of time and $$$ to me.

My old Wirehaired Pointing Griffon (A Dutch version of a German Wirehaired Pointer) is on his way out I think. He is a dog I never should have taken in the first place. I was trying for a replacement for a Boykin Spaniel- big mistake, nothing at all like a Boykin. Nice dog but completely bent on killing anything he can get hold of. I'm not sure how many cats, chickens, ducks and geese he's ripped to pieces but it's a lot. We'll keep an eye on him, but it doesn't look like he's going to see spring. That stuff really bothers Mrs Bret.

While back I was curious about annealed vs un-annealed neck tension. Thinking about it (cases were sized, then annealed) that stretched brass then swells a tad after annealing.

i like to do a little work hardening after annealing.
usually anneal, pin tumble, then size just to put a little back in.

Had 17 tons of gravel (1 1/4" base) delivered and drop spread at the bottom portion of my gravel drive. This area is below the house and rarely gets driven on, except with my UTV. Been at least ten years since any has been added. Been dry lately, so I figured it would be a good time to take care of the ruts forming from the years of heavy rain.

Even had enough for touch up, in other bare areas, at my leisure.

Looks like we're going to have to spend some $$$$$ to replace our geothermal heat pump. Had an HVAC company (the one that intalled Winelover's geothermal system) come over yesterday and gather data to quote a new heat pump.
On the plus side, our backup propane heater has been keeping us very comfortable for the past week.

Dang that's a bummer RJ. Any idea how old that pump might be? Could be original to the house build

Thumbcocker, you after deer or turkey? I have used turkey decoys to make the deer less spooky around blinds.
I am after turkeys or as we refer to them "furkeys" combining a word we utter about them with their name. Mrs.Thumbcocker has already gotten a nice hen with her crossbow this year.

I had a button buck come into my turkey decoys. I shot him because I thought he was a doe. He was with another deer. Most times buttons are solo. I have gotten a few crossbow and compound bow turkeys.

An Illinois archery turkey tag is id $5.50 which gives you an idea of how much of a threat DNR feels the average bow/crossbow hunter is to the quarry. I can't wait to get my $3 unicorn tag.

Installed in 2008. It's a Carrier (made by Climate Master). Original owner spent some serious money on some things, but not this. He chose a unit that did not have the best track record, even 13 years ago. It was a couple thousand dollars cheaper than the unit installed in John's house. The installs only about 1 year apart.
We got a really great deal on this house and land. I don't feel that I have too much room to gripe.

Been car shopping for a couple weeks, finally gave up and bought a car for work. I'll keep my old trucks for when I want to enjoy myself. Now I've got to get it set up for winter, and POOF there went my weekend.

We will go small appliance shopping after Christmas.
We are hoping that inventory reduction will bring prices down.
New microwave oven, deep fryer, and an electric can opener are needed.

Got another load of gravel. Only got about half of it spread yesterday. Today is supposed to be in the mid 40's and then the temps drop into the mid 20's for a high tomorrow, so I gotta get it done today. While I was waiting on the stone I tried getting the JD 420 crawler going. No spark! Looks like the points are fried, typical of a 6v system run at 12 volts, although I'm pretty sure theres a resistor in the line for the ignition. Will look more today, after I pull the rest of the electronet fence!

Gordy went out last night to hunt over the gut pile from his deer. No joy on coyotes, but he saw 12-14 deer in the area.

On vehicle hunting- I've been looking for a rig for Gord for a couple months now. Pickin's are SLIM! I know my expectations are probably a little high, but people are asking $5K for trucks that can't be worth $2500. Strange days. Saw one truck with over 500K that was priced at $8K. Diesel or not, it was still rusted and had a list of problems. Strange days indeed!

Nationwide shortage on new and used vehicles due to chip shortages. It's supply and demand thing.............one goes up, other goes down.

My truck is a '95 4WD Ford F-150 King Cab, that I bought in December '96 for $17,000. Don't need 4WD round here, but we'd just bought that patch of Western Montana land and mud and snow was in our future. Earlier this year, daughter and son-in-law were shopping for a new car, because theirs had been rear-ended and totaled. Son-in-law told me a truck identical to mine, except 2WD, was priced at $12,000.
Strange, crazy and weird days that I don't expect to pass too soon enough.

I have an 02 Dodge Dakota 4 door 2wd I bought 8 years ago. Couple of weeks ago the same dealer that sold it to me offered me $2,000 cash on the spot more than I bought it for.

little work hardening after annealing yea, I do that on 308, just didn't this time. haven't shot any of them yet to determine any benefit or not. Went to range for some R&R yesterday, CVA & carbine BO. Carbine did OK but got some nose jams - really tight chamber. CVA did fine but I got a lot of vertical stringing from 4227 loads. W296 & BLL did fine from both but 4227 (PC & BLL mixed) gave ~4" spread. Had noticed this before but thought it was pretty much me. Both running right at 2k fps, same 145gr GCd.

We have exactly four new vehicles on the sales lot that will hold 60 and our overflow lot is empty. Service department is slammed.
