Got another Monstrum Scope last week to "replace" that POS Discovery OPT.

Gonna site it and another then a small ladder of 6arc. Home mid afternoon.

That was an excellent way to celebrate the day, Jon, sending all those fumes up into the atmosphere so they can be recycled into useful stuff. And what was that white stuff round the wheel barrows?, on April 22 no less!

Feal I have accomplished something today. Took me a bit to get it done. But...
I beat everyone of my neighbors for about an eight mile. Mowing and weed eating the grass this spring. Including the local "landscaper".
About 3 of them took the que and are just now firing up their mowers.
A forth one has his Honda rider out in the yard cusin' and kicking it.
Glad to bring Joy and a little outdoor activity, to my neighbors lives today.
So now I am sitting on the porch this evening. Listening to, and watching the entertainment.

Went fishing with my Honey. Got about 10 short walleyes and 4 white bass. The plan was a total release day anyway. Water temperature down 8° from one week ago. Very stiff breeze blowing up river creating white caps. So all in all not good fishing but great company.

tax is democrat.
fee is republican.

i don't remember doin much of nuthin today.
might be cause i woke up at midnight half on and half off the couch with a chihuahua making weird noises at the top of my head.
then went out in the shop and smoked a half pack of smokes before going back to bed at 6 am for 2 more hours.

i did jump start the 4 wheeler.
kind of weird, it acted dead but about 20 minutes of 10 amps had it starting up like normal.
guess we'll see how it goes tomorrow, i think we're gonna go get a bunch of horse manure and i'll use the wheeler to pull the trailer.

Worked on a new ceiling light installation in the kitchen. The ceiling has exposed beams so flush mounting is not really an option. Made a backer and bracket to hang the light level from the beam. Up and down the ladder many times. The hookup is temporary. I've been using WAGO connectors, they are really nice. The LED fixtures put out a good light. Another one to do tomorrow. Got to have good light!

Today, I'm gonna clean out the front porch and make room for my Generator. I think I mentioned buying a small 8 hp Generator (4000W) about a month ago? It looks like new, but is 24 yrs old, I was told it was used for backup purposes at the farm, during power outages. When I went to buy it, the owner didn't want me to put gas in it, and start it, incase I didn't finalize the deal, he didn't want to store a gassy Gen in his garage. So, I didn't try to start it, I didn't pull the recoil to see if it had compression, I didn't check the oil. while I should have walked away, I offered $120 and he said, sold.
.
Sunday, I had high hopes of putting a little gas in the Gen, and doing a test run, then clean out my porch for a place to store it. My plans changed to tearing this thing apart, to find it's troubles. I wasn't in the frame of mind to trouble this thing, I was just gonna add gas and test run it, I had other things to do and didn't want to spend all day with greasey/gassy hands. So, when I proceeded to troubleshoot it, I didn't get setup right, and didn't do all the things I would normally do, to get a gas engine running.
.
Yep, it did take all day. The fuel valve was plugged. Which when I was trying to clean it out, the rubber grommet/seal cracked and started leaking, it holds the valve in the big plastic fuel tank. I remove tank and remove fuel valve...and order a valve kit. I still want to get this running. I remove the air filter, to give the carb a hit of starting fluid. I couldn't get it to fire, I tried several times. I did notice a little brass thing in the air filter housing that looked like a electrical connector or something?
.
Next step, I pull the spark plug and put a little gas into the cylinder, the Spark plug looked real bad, black and full of sooty crud. I spent a half hour looking for another plug, I know I got one somewhere? I find one, looks new, but had vicegrip marks all over it? Motor still won't fire. I play around with this technique for an hour, still won't fire.
.
The engine cover (that has the recoil on it), has a on-off switch. I've had a Honda engine with a corroded on-off switch before. I remove cover, and find the switch is busted and part is missing...but that missing part is what I found in the air cleaner. So I glue it together? or do I order a new one? I settle on ordering a new switch. At this time I notice it has the magnatron coil...this is good, as I didn't want to remove the flywheel to check points for corrosion. I was hoping this engine was new enough to have electronic ignition. btw, the flywheel has a lot of fluffy rust on it, like it was stored in a unheated farm shed for 23.5 years.
.
I make sure the wire that was on the switch and was shorting out to engine case, is no longer shorting out. I have spark, motor starts up and runs great for 5 seconds until the gas I put in the cylinder is gone. I do that a few times, and change oil. The oil is blacker than black, and fairly thick. I fill it with some 10-w30 and call it a day...when the parts I ordered arrive today or tomorrow, I 'was' thinking I should be good to go.
.
BUT, while I haven't touched this since Sunday, I have been thinking the last couple days. I didn't do anything with the carb, except spray a little starting fluid in it. I have developed a gut feeling, that this 24 yr old engine, that probably never had it's oil changed and rubber grommet on fuel valve has aged out, the chances are high that this carb will need attention.
.
But, today, I am gonna clean out the cardboard out of the front porch, for SURE !

Well, I had received notification that Ramshot Hunter powder was back in stock at Powder Valley early this morning.
Logged on two hours later and they are out of stock.

Yup tried to get a Champion M/Gen set running, been setting for a long while. Tank is completely fouled, shutoff is clogged, hose hardened. May just get tossed.

Sun was out so decided to get a jump on sprucing up my $50 Horror Fright Trailer. I think I mentioned it before. It's one of those folding POS trailers. But for $50, I was content. It will never see the road. It will haul the Sure-Step dock decking to the lake front and also store it in the winter.

Given that the trailer spent most of it's 30 year life outdoors, it's not all that rusty. I did a rusty trailer like this back in my 20's and am using the same technique. Wire wheel on drill motor to knock off the loose paint and rust scale. The first wheel was a small 3 inch wheel I had in the drawer. I put it on my Makita side grinder and it made fast work of the paint and rust. But I suspect the RPM were a bit high for the wheel and the wheel is probably a made in China by prisoners thing. It started to throw wires and before I got half way thru, most of the wheel was gone. This is when I realized most of the wires were in my pants or shirt. I looked like a metallic porcupine. So, took about 15 minutes to pluck all the wires out. And still continued to find more as the day went on when they stuck me, some in a rather tender area.

I then switched to my die grinder and a wire brush head. This worked almost as well and also allowed me to get into the nooks and crannies. Half way thru the die grinder quit when it slipped out of my hands and hit the driveway. I could not get it to turn on. Then I noticed that the garage lights were out. Reset the breaker in the basement and went back to work. Turns on the grinder and a huge flash occured at the lead. DId not blow the breaker this time. So, down to the basement, take it apart, shorten the cord, re-connect and back to work good as new. Then just before I was done, it quit again. I went to turn off the switch and it was stuck in ON. Okay, plan C. Grabbed the pneumatic die grinder, put the brush in that and finished up the job. Should have used that from the start. Worked great.

I had a 1/2 pint of Rustoleum primer in the basement. Flipped the trailer over and started priming the bottom. I got the bottom done with nary a drop of paint to spare. Need to get another can tomorrow to finish it up, weather permitting.

I'm beat. Bending over for most of the day grinding or painting should show up later tonight in near rigor mortise setting in. Well, I guess it would be rigor vita in my case. Think I'll go hand upside down on the inversion table before I retire for the evening.

Tree guys just left. Had 4 trees felled. All were too close to the house for me to tackle. Wasn't cheap, but they did a great job and did a little extra that I paid for and a little extra that was "no charge". They cut most limbs and branches over 2 inches dia. into 4 to 6 ft. lengths; under 2 inch dia. they chipped. Most of the bigger stuff is piled next to the log splitter I bought from Rick. Son comes home from college in a couple of weeks. He and I will be buckin' and splittin' oak for weeks.
