I have switched to braid some 10-12 years back
The guys that take me fishing are all using 50#-65# braid with 30# mono leaders.
Braid is super strong for its diameter, but very unforgiving because it will not stretch.
The amount of drag that you set is very important with these big strong fish.
The people that take me fishing are as good as any of the guides and better than some.
They use some very fine gear.
Most are using upper end G Loomis or Shimano fishing rods with good level wind, line counter reels.
The rod/reel combo that I caught my salmon on cost in the range of $600 new.
For spring chinook they anchor and run what is known as a Rogue River rig.
For the fall chinook they troll the same rig or a 360 flasher.
This fishing is all done in the river.

I have a 5 x 10 aluminum flatbed trailer that I bought new mostly for hauling my sidecar rig long distances like to our summer place. But it hauls all kinds of other stuff as required, plus will haul two solo bikes. The one issue has always been hauling two bikes. I mounted the wheel chocks so that handlebars would not interfere. I probably could have staggered them to prevent that. But then you are squeezing between the bikes and if somethign happens, a bar can go into a tank and that would be a BAAAAAAAAD thing. So, I've wanted to put a pair of outriggers on the front to give me a better purchase angle for the front tie-downs. I've been noodling on this for several years since I rarely haul two bikes. Well, there is a 1 day event coming up and looks like I'm going with my buddy Jake. He has a big Ford Transit that he modified with an aluminum "cell" he fabricated to haul his big street bikes. You mount the bike in the cell and then it cranks into the van with a winch. Very slick. only, it limits the room in the van for other things, like our small vintage bikes. We have done two events using his van and it's a PITA to get two bikes in there. He's 84 and I'm 72 and we just can't move, contort and lift like we used to.

When I got Jake's email asking if I wanted to go to the Unsprung Moto, I told him I'd already decided to go. So that was my incentive. All the noodling and overthinking how to modify the trailer went out the window. I dug out two pieces of bed frame (some of my favorite material for projects like these) and made two outriggers that bolt to the front of the trailer. Got 2 1/2" 300lb rated eyebolts at TSC and got everything fit. I put a coat of silver paint on one side yesterday and will do the other side today. I know, I should have bought aluminum angle, but I decided that free material was a better route. Besides, if I get anal about it one of these days, I can always by the angle and just replace the steel with the aluminum.

I used 50# and quickly learned it was so strong snags cost a-lot of value lost. You couldn't break it off!!!!
Switched to 17/20# mono for sinkers and 30# for lines.
Yes, NO stretch and also floats. The 30 was still hard to break but lighter leaders on sinkers helped allot. When we fish toothy fish we use 80-90# floro or mono leaders.
Floro is near invisible in water for more fussy fish. It makes a difference.

Coupling braid with circle hooks resulted in FAR more and better hookups.

Also my action popped straight out! Bedding is very nearly perfect! Id of liked it to come up sides more and also run forward under barrel. But I am fixing that now with a second bedding, just forward of the first.

Well I got the grass cut in the immediate backyard. I starting collecting branches and limbs that were "winter falls" Was able to take a trailer load to the woodline to dump. I have at least 2 more full loads to dump however our 88 degree sunny day turned in to late afternoon thunderstorms! I didn't even have time to put all my seedlings under cover & now their trays are full of water that I have to dump before night fall. I also guess I have to climb my ladder to clean out the front gutters which started overflowing from the heavy rains!

Finally got the neutral safety switch Park, and the back up lights. On the Jeep functioning properly.Like everything should. I even found the passing gear issue and got it fixed. Plus other little minor issues that were taken care of with a salvage yard trip. Changed the parking Paul and flushed the transmission.
Basically fixing things that were repaired wrong or shistered by the previous owner(s).
Still need to put a new shift cable in but got the old one rigged good enough to let me finish that job on another date.
Brother tag teamed it with me today and yesterday.
Tonight.
Helped-helping my brother out with his project and doing some visiting today also.
May post pics of his monstrosity if I get time to degrade them so they post here.

Worked with Sue cleaning out wild flower beds. We left the flower stems until this late in the year so the insects that Winter in the stem were able to survive. In particular a lot of tiny bees apparently over Winter in hollow stems.
Then we mowed, everything. The yard, my .22 range, a separate area where I park equipment, and the trail that surrounds the prairie keeping brush and trees at bay and providing a fire break.
Fishing tomorrow. I use a lot of braid, mostly 10 lb. test in high visibility yellow. It has the same diameter as 2 lb. test mono. The sense of feel is electric. The no stretch insures good hook sets. Braid lasts and lasts, and when it get sun faded after 3 or 4 seasons I reverse it on the reel and get more time out of it. I use a short mono leader when I want it to. float, and fluorocarbon when I want it to sink.

Deprimed and wet tumbled 250-plus pieces of .45 ACP, then sorted and stored them by headstamp. Yep, OCD, ADHD and LHD cause me to sort .45 ACP brass.
Big whoopsie: forgot to size them. Oh, well, that'll be caught when I go to load them, because I'm not about to look for them.

My wife and local granddaughter wanted Mexican for lunch. Nine-hours later and that really big burrito still has me feeling full. Have to say, though, that my wife's green-sauced shrimp enchiladas, rice and beans would have been a better choice. Next time . . .

Cast 250-plus NOE 360-160 WFNs. Made five .357 Mag. dummy rounds and the Rossi 92/EMF Hartford's lever still needs double clutching, but I'm used to it so no problem.

Primed 200 40sw cases. will load today when the weather gets wet.
Edit:
Cast for BO was dismal failure this time. Still all over the place, alloy not the problem, all 3 alloys same results. Scope & rifle OK as I did 3 touching and 2 barely off with Vmax. Emptied 45 or so 40sw, did fine. Back to drawing board.
Dang new med I got is really messing me up, all the nasty symptoms of hyoscyamine. If it stops the nasty liquid coming out the wrong place I'll just have to get used to it.

Could not sleep a 4:00 am. So got up and cast about 150 358-158RF. Will powder coat them later after I cast something else.
Getting ready to get into work today so will get to test how the jeep shifts from cold. Drove and shifted good last night but still want to see how it goes after it cools down all the way.
Hoping I have all resolve because the boy needs to drive it 35 miles to his girlfriend's prom and back Saturday. If so I can put the center console back in it. Before he takes it on his date.
