I was looking for something else all together and pulled up the thread from 2022 about Skeeter Skelton's .41 Redhawk. I found it quite interesting. I am the guy that bought it on the auction. I can share with you answers to some of the questions that were put forth in the original post. First off the gun is 100% authentic. I contacted Bart while the auction was still going on. I asked him if he knew anything about the gun. He immediately told me the serial number. He didn't have to scramble to find it. I contacted the seller and asked them to take a picture of the serial number. I sent it to Bart and he immediately replied "that was Daddy's gun." He then directed me to the 1988 auction list. There it was. The reason the gun was plain is it was exactly what Skeeter described to Bill Ruger as the perfect Redhawk. His specs were : blued, 5.5" barrel in .41 Magnum. Bill Ruger and Skeeter were tight. Bill showed up one day and handed the gun to Skeeter. For the Skeeter fans reading this you probably know about the "22" on the end of Skeeters personal SNs. After an exhaustive search it turned out that it was the only one of the 22 guns that was still in Skeeter's possession. Of course the value of the gun is determined by how bad I wanted it. Growing up a Skeeter fan buying the gun was next to owning Superman's cape. Bart and I communicated quite a bit in between the time I bought the gun until his untimely death. Skeeter had a lot of guns. This happened to be one of his ideas brought to life then gifted to him by Bill Ruger. Bart even told me what load he shot in the gun. I have some of them loaded. Skeeter only lived a few years after he was given the gun. Bart really wanted this one. We came to a gentleman's agreement. I told him if I ever got rid of it that it would be to him and for exactly what I paid for it. I have been offered a lot of money for the gun but it isn't for sale. It is rare to own something that one of your heroes actually used and therein lies the worth and value. I am changing the sights (but keeping the originals ) to something I can see better. I am still planning on a special hunt with it. If your a Skeeter fan and we ever cross paths I would be honored to let you shoot it. I went to Texas last year an several of my Texas friend got to shoot it.
