If you have a Win PC, use Paint, free software that comes on the system. Open the file in paint, and click "view", zoom out, and you
can easily crop -- DO NOT SAVE OVER YOUR ORIGINAL FILE! Use "save as" and modify the name.

And use "resize" and set to about 800 or 1000 pixels max dimension, and again, DO NOT SAVE OVER YOUR ORIGINAL FILE!
I save as original name with a "crop" or "small" added just before the end of the file name.

I agree with Bill on keeping the original intact and saving a separate file for forum use. I often do the same for email sent photos.

Lots of free, easy to use software out there.

Thank's for the replies. I'm usling a Android and somewhere l have read of an app to downsize photos. I Think it was in relation to the Photobucket "crash".
Now i'm on vacation and next week back at work. Way to buisy being "free".
Might have to crank up an old pc.
My spellcheck is acting up. Might have missed some corrections.....

I dunno how you got that dog to wear both a hat and glasses.
I can barely ever get one to wear one or the other.
I did train by BILS little Staffordshire terrier to wear ear muffs when we went shooting, as soon as she seen a gun she would come right over to get them put on.

Sept. 10, 2021 Steve left us. You are missed.
I'm still learning about posting pictures here but I use a free app Photos and pictures resizing on an Android.

I'm too lazy for all that I just take a picture of 2-3 times as much as I want and then crop it down and save it on the phone to post . This in a Moto Z Android . The previous S5 Samsung and Ms S7 have the ability to adjust the "density" of the photo so I could take a lower definition picture of what I wanted a picture of .
This for example .

The original includes a lovely comfortable though not terribly manly pink recliner arm , most of my other fat thigh , 2 scarred up knees , some blond wood floor , and a rather large black dog nose . Neatly trimmed back down to post well on the Lee Loader site it is just big enough now to accommodate a Glock 42 and an LCP .

I do about what Bill does. I import the photos from my Iphone to my PC then use Paint to resize and crop. To post here I usually open the photo in Paint, resize to 20-25%, then crop if necessary. Bill makes a good point in not saving the file under its original name. You will lose the original in the process. I use Save As and generally name the file by the subject matter and a number, i.e. "DieBlank1" or something similar. The photos I have cataloged on my PC that have the original name are all full, not edited, photos.

Haven't tried editing photos on my phone; most things I can do on my phone I can do a lot easier on my PC.

Keith, for the iphone and iPad I use a free app called SimpleResize. You select the photo, decide the size you want, and safe it. It creates a second version on the phone at the reduced size. I use it for almost all the photos I post.

Guess I'm spoiled: I have Adobe Photoshop Cloud on all my devices! Because that is what I use every day on my job ( when I have work )
Stuff like that never occurred to me! I can see it being a problem for most folks
