Wadcutter mold design

You can always fire the first several rounds single-shot and inspect the barrel bore & cylinders before firing a second shot until you reach your conclusion of whether or not you should continue.
I'll do that.
Except for the target load My Dad shot in Bullseye Competition, We never shot wadcutters. His favorite .38Spl load was a .38/44 load using the #358429 over a stout charge of Unique. Used that load in S&W Heavy Duty & Colt OP to tumble jackrabbits. I still use that load occasionally these days in that same Colt Op & a S&W M27.

Can’t disagree. Right now, I’m shooting a Blackhawk convertible’ a Model 15 Smith and a Marlin M1894 .357. The Python is semi retired.
Most loads are the traditional SWCs. I always have 4-5 boxes of standard “wad” loads stashed for plinking. They even shoot accurately in the Marlin but have to be single loaded..
My philosophy on SD is in an emergency, put any round in a bad guy’s boiler room and it’s all over. Any threat of a gun and I’d be gone. Any sensible person would and will. The key words here are self defense. If you intend to blow a 3 holethrough a bad guy, call it something else.. A prosecutor sure will. A wadcutter, even a match load will do nicely./beagle

No, but even a .22 solid below the left eye proceeds to make him go “cold turkey” in a heartbeat. His partner/s will immediately drop him off at the nearest ER and haul buggy before they get involved. Druggies are loyal to each other.
Once people know there’s an armed person who will fight back. They immediately lose their zest for further conquest.
The border problem could be solved with .22 Marlins if the people of the US had intestinal fortitude but they don’t and as a result. We’re in a mess.
Take these words of wisdom from an old machine gunner.
Stop worrying about killing power and be ready with what you normally use and are profficient with. Be it a .22 Ruger, .22 SS rifle or single barrel shotgun.
Things will work out fine for you/bragle

I read once where the old Gunwriter Skeeter Skelton once said if He found himself with a .22 auto pistol with 10rds of hi-speed HP's, He would not feel under gunned.

Many feel that way. Guess I’m one of them. Self defense is a “come as you are” situation. Otherwise it would be an ambush.
Like going to the door at 3:00 in the morning. Just be sure you have pants handy.
Had this situation once. Went with no pants and a Browning High Power. Was a deputy checking on identification of a suspect in custody. Didn’t say a thing about either adornment or lack there of. After that I prepare every night for unintended visits./beagle

I remember without fondness having to kill head shot and chest shot squirrels with a big stick

If he’s not out of action and showing fight, keep shooting.
Think that’s the reason for a “double tap”.
The point I’m making is in a defensive situation, you shoot to defend life with whatever you have and keep on until you accomplish that.
You’re on the defense, not offense.
If you happen to have a shotgun, .44 Mag at hand, use it to the best of your availability to defend you and yours. If it’s a .22 single shot, shoot again if need be.
Always keep in mind, “defend against loss of your life”. Don’t go out to gain superior firepower and then kill everything in sight no matter how enraged you are. Leads to serious legal matters.
Happens my closest protection is a M870 with #4 Remington Express loads. I live in the country and coyotes are thick. So be it. No ambush premeditation.
Not flaming anyone here. Just talking what I consider common sense/beagle
